Hoping for that needle in a haystack is not what many would call "investing" in the position.

No I think scouting pro players and decided Bates has starter position is investing in the position.

If the scouts are saying Bates has good starter potential then should Poles ignore them in favor of CCS?

In the end you have zero ability to really assess whether Bates is a good starter or not. Poles thinks he can be and the season will dictate whether he is right not how CCS feels about it.

To be fair collectively CCS has been more right than the Bears.

If we bought the team and ran it with polls (after debates and trolling each other of course) it would be a sure win.

Is this serious?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
So why don't we get the guy who beat the guy we got? And we'd still have the 5th.
Not that I care about the 5th, as a versatile backup to hold us over until better is ready I think it's a good trade.

Because he's 31 and more expensive

He’s 32 or 33.

But I kinda wonder if Bates would have been released too

Maybe not. They're converting a guard into a center now.

I think the 5th was too much for them to pass up so they took it. They still have a lot more cap to clear

Doubtful, think he only saved them 700k if cut.
Saved them more by trading him then. Pole’s could have done this trade for a future 7th as they were desperate to get rid of him. (Unless they were bidding against another team which I haven’t heard of)

How do you know that? This saved them 1.4 this year and 5 next from what I read

dropping both centers and converting a guard to a center, maybe

they didnt save much for trading Bates, but a 5th round rookie wouldn't cost as much either
