Kaplan is confirming that the Dodgers aren't willing to give up Webster either in a deal. It is official that Dempster has fucked the Cubs.

The 10/5 thing really made that easy. If the Dodgers weren't going to offer even Webster straight up, then I guess the Cubs trade Garza instead and try to steal the farm. I'm still not sure what a guy like Greinke would've brought back, but the comp pick for Demp is probably worth more than whatever the Dodgers are willing to give up at this point.

I really, really not sure about the compensation pick. I am not waiting anxiously for that next Dempster start because I really think we might see him booed as he takes the field which when has that every happened?

That is what I am saying. I am fairly confident that the booes would start the second he walks on the field. I can't think of a time that has happened.

Yeah I am guessing it probably happened with Milton Bradley and maybe Todd Hundley, but it will just be interesting to watch with a pitcher.

Dempster can go **** himself in the bullpen the rest of the year, either that or I hope they over pitch him and he blows his arm out and needs tommy john

I realize that you guys are upset and possibly overreacting or joking, but you do realize that the odds of Dempster being absolutely useless to the Cubs increases if he's in the bullpen or injured, right?

I've linked the Rosenthal piece on the compensation pick, and I've really started to doubt that Dempster would decline it.

Well, here's the deal...what do you value more?
1. Whatever crap prospects the Dodgers are now going to give the Cubs due to lack of leverage;
2. One year of Dempster for $12.5MM;
3. The comp round pick.
If 2. and 3. are about equal then they have to present the qualifying offer. I'm of the opinion that the pick or Dempster for an extra year is worth more than whatever the Cubs would get back at this point. I guess it depends on how much a team is willing to give up for Shields or Greinke, but there ya go. At this point I think they're probably working on a Garza trade (that hasn't been leaked, herp a derp) and putting Dempster on the back burner.

What do we need him for exactly? To get a spec? He's worthless he's gonna help us win 65 instead of 60 I would rather lose 5 more and watch him sit hurt or benched for being a dickhead then win those 5 games.
