Sounds like he went a bit overboard but I am sure the fish turned out gorgeous. clean water and a healthy diet is a sure way to have healthy good looking and fast growing fish.

That's IT! I am going to get my well running and sell it as raw water. I will undercut EVERYONE and sell it for $35 per gallon. I am going to retire this year.

I was breeding discus, a fish that requires very soft water. I had like 28 tanks, and did 80% water changes each day.

My wife bought a betta fish and I thought it sucked changing the water once a month lmao

Looks delicious, a little dill and lemon, you mentioned serving with fries, I would pair it with Au Gratin Potatoes.

Depends a lot on the rejection rate of the RO membrane. Most are only 90+% efficient. RODI is another matter, almost the same as distilled water. Problem with RO water is the huge amount of waste water produced. I used to make 1,000+ gallons of RO water a day, but it took me 2,000+ gallons to do so. Those without sophisticated systems it would take closer to 3,000+ gallons (depends on water pressure, water temp, etc). But for those with contaminated ground water, this is the only filtration that works.

Yeah, RO, while easy to use, has a lot of concerns. Interesting to hear this from an aquaculturist perspective. My home uses RWH, no municipal tap, we don't lose much of any water. Just the stuff for drinking gets pushed through RO and the rest is on a gray water cycle which goes back into the ground or another exit filter(depending on the drain).

Been looking at methods for re-mineralization for a few years. Considered drilling a supplemental well. Using bentonite/pascilite clay now, which winds up costing maybe $1.50 a year for our usage, so that makes the $2-3k to DIY a well correctly seem silly for the intent of gaining the problem everyone seems to be running from, hard water.

We need to get some fish farming, aquaponics, or whatever the term would be, going on the forum. I love reading about people's ventures. I did tilapia in 50 gal tote for less than a year, and it was just too damn time consuming for essentially a junk grade fish.

If I could only have one appliance it would be my panini press. It's a cheap one but I've been making magic with it for 10 years. Crunch!

Not including my grill.

your pushing rain water through an ro filter? can i ask why? Cool use of the betonite clay, I know they use that with great success in growing out huge Koi. I guess the mineral content is very bio-available.

Tastes better. It's only for drinking water. But yeah, I have a neighbor with a sick maple that doesn't seem to care, and the rainwater can(not always) taste a faint of rotten leaf.
