Just a guess....but it could be that as long as he's got Bolland centering the 3rd line that he would use them more defensively than offensively which would make Stalberg a square peg going in a round hole.

As good a guess as any and makes sense if that is how he wants to use the third line. Only Q truly knows...

Yeah, we gotta stop that Jackson/ Q comparison thing. Phil always surrounded himself with the best talent in the NBA at the time while Q pretty much is dealt a hand he has to micro manage.

My reason why Q gets fired is because the expectations are rather high for this team just based on the destruction they caused to start the season. Short season or not, the Hawks regular season was one of the greatest in the history of the NHL. I have no faith in McNose to not try and steal any or all of the head lines if this team suddenly craps itself in any round even the Cup final. And have no confidence in him that he wouldn't toss Q to the side if the out come doesn't favor McCub.

This is the president that had a commercial made for himself with his day with the Cup. The fact that his ego knows no bounds seems to tell me he is a bit superficial and would love nothing more then to put the blame on anybody else other then him when he pretty much runs every aspect of the franchise. Q has done a wonderful job, and theres a part of yours truly who thinks any other coach isn't gonna get the same results with this team the way that its built. Q did everything right this year to this point. Which is a damn shame considering I think McMuffin will fire him the second the Cup doesn't come back here.

The Phil Jackson / Q comparison is worthless, IMO.... The NBA has what is a much more superstar driven league and the Bulls had the best player of all time. The NHL is much more team oriented and is the hardest playoffs to go through, hence why you see a lot more "dynasties" in the NBA as opposed to the NHL. They are too different to compare.

I also find it funny that some of you are ripping on Q all of a sudden.... Because he benched the untouchable "Stalgod." Gimme a break. No one was complaining about the average PP during their first place regular season. No one was complaining about the PP as they beat the Wild 4-1. Now, after a 3rd liner gets benched when one of our best playoff performers comes back from injury, people want to fire Q? Rofl, that logic makes no sense to me. If any discussion should be going on about "Stalgod" being benched it should be praise for Bowman for bringing in a ridiculous amount of depth and for Q's ability to coach said depth up and to stick with people like Saad, who had a disappointing first 8-10 games and could have been benched early on.

IMO - this whole conversation reeks of spoiled fans.

Umm, I have been complaining about the PP all season. It is terrible given the offensive talent on this team. Q got rid of a coach that the guys in the locker room really liked in order to bring in one of his guys to "fix" the PP. Didn't work out and something really needs to change in that aspect of the team.

As for Stalberg, I will repeat again, I AM FINE WITH THE BENCHING. I am not fine however with putting a guy like Carcillo out there.

Saad would never have been on the first line early in the season if it had not been for Carcillo getting hurt. Q ends up looking like a genius for putting him up there only because of that injury.

Bolland definitely stepped up last game. Seems Q has gotten away from matching lines as much as he did in the past, which I'm fine with. The big stat that I saw regarding Dats is that he had 27 shifts, and I believe Keith was on the ice for 24 of them.

I agree with you on Q. There is no reason I shouldn't trust him at this point. This team has showed up for almost every game this year. Sure the players have a lot to do with it, but Q seems to be getting the most out of them.

This is a big reason why I do not think Q wins the Adams. What coach couldn't look successful with a team as loaded as the Hawks are.

And that's the gods honest truth. Saad doesn't develop at such a rate if Carbomb doesn't self inflict his stupidity on himself nor does Q even fathom the idea of putting Saad on a line he can learn how to shield the puck that much better with a master like Hossa showing him how its done first hand.

Saad was out of shape while in Rockford and winged it for his first couple of games there. You put a talented kid on a line with elite players and good golly look what happened to his confidence. Down the stretch Saad was one of guys man handling teams D-men. Nothing that Q did other then fill out the line up card. I swear Saad and Stalberg should throw a couple bones at Hossa as I see a lot of Hoss in both of them lately. Once Saad adds some weight that kid is gonna be very, very good and right now he should win the Calder.

They had, for the most part, the same roster in the last two seasons. What was different this year?

Better goaltending is probably the #1 reason but there are others as well. Addition by subtraction featuring place holders Brunette, Lepisto, Morrison and Scott. Finding out that they had two prime PKers in Frolik and Kruger. Young players maturing into bonifide NHL players in Leddy and Saad. Having Oduya the whole year which rounded out their dman rotation. Bickell and Stalberg having strong years along with Shaw to make the 3rd line a threat.

Sometimes you just dont have the horses, much like the Bulls this year. No coaching can over come that.

Not to mention that Kane finally decided to grow up and take each game seriously. His effort has been questioned the last few seasons, but this year not so much. I am not sure if it was his time overseas during the lockout, or if it is just the fact that he has gotten a little older and is past the partying stage. Whatever the case, I like this Kane much better than that of the last two years.
