The article never claimed to have proof. In fact the headline in the article in the OP says, "Not a Drill: SETI Is Investigating a Possible Extraterrestrial Signal From Deep Space"

How did you arrive at them having proof when it clearly says they are investigating a possible signal? Do we need to go over what it means when someone says they are investigating a possibility?

Lol, they even said it was possibly a type 2....earth isn't even a 1....but a signal from earth is possibly a type two and from a civilization far more advanced than ours.

What's funny is you moving the goalposts. Your claim is that they said they have proof. They never made such a claim. The story made it clear from the start it was just a possibility. And all the story ever did was speculate not provide proof regarding the type of civilization that could emit a signal that strong if it was assumed that the signal did in fact come from space.

So I suppose I would find it funny too if I drew a completely erroneous conclusion based on poor reading comprehension. There was always a possibility that after investigating they would discover the signal came from earth which is precisely why they said they were investigating a possibility. Reading comprehension is fundamental.

Not saying I believe it but I wouldn't call belief that we are the only intelligent life in the universe stupid. The only real evidence there is for it is pure speculation.

Logically, it seems pretty likely that there is another planet somewhere that contains life, but there is not substantial evidence to back it up.

That has nothing to do with anything I posted. I think the Russian PM was fucking around, that has no connection whatsoever to what I believe are the chances for ET life.

I understand the numbers and probabilities. The Drake equation is not a secret, it's common knowledge I won't even post a link since it is the second most famous equation behind E = mc 2.
