We're getting quarter sized hail where I am right now. That's an American quarter, versus that smaller coin "some people" come down and use to jam up our machines.

WGN news is 1 hour long...3 minutes goes to the lead story, 5 minutes to sports, and 52 minutes goes to Skilling drooling over Cumulus Nimbus Clouds.

Tom resides one town over from me, in Sleepy Hollow(east of dundee il).

He also nailed this storm on the head for a change, 8" or so in his backyard...of wet heavy shit.

I've been through Sleepy Hollow. We dropped a White Castle Employee off by there one time. Gave us free food for a ride.

I gotta admit I am confused. I checked the hourly forecast and from 8 AM uesday thru Wednesday at 6 AM, it going to progressively get warmer with almost all temps over 32. How are we getting so much snow? Won't it come down as rain?

As it is colder up above, it will come down as snow at that temperature with some possible mixture. Usually when its around 33 or higher though it doesn't accumulate at all.

If the folks at NOAA in Romeoville were compensated based upon accuracy, they would almost never receive a pay check.

Precipitation types do not always coincide with ground temps, has more to do with the layer of air it falls through. A 33 degree air temp at the surface can support snow when temps are colder at higher altitudes. IE: Snow falling through several thousand feet of below freezing temps doesn't have enough time to convert to liquid before reaching ground...despite a 33 or even up to 35 surface temp.
