There is a lot more to the story than reported in the news. But the clusterfuck that lead to this medal from the initial contact to the medal ceremony is more embarrising than congress.

I watched the video and I dont see what was so amazing.

I am not saying that to be a dick. It seems kinda routine really. Please understand, I have never been in the military so I come from a place of zero knowledge. I am not saying he or any one else didn't earn or deserve a medal, far from it. Thank goodness there are folks willing to do that cause I dont think I could.

I guess what I am saying is could someone explain to me like I am a 5 year old what happened there.

The video was only a few minutes of an hours long firefight that he was in. Read the story it explains it

Yeah Jako... you have to read... the video was just what was captured as he dumped off one of his NCO's after an ambush... he kissed him on the side of the head and said goodbye before going back out. That guy later died, but (this is the story) his wife released the video because he gave her husband enough time by dragging him out of there to say goodbye to her. He was shot in the neck. Just read... I know it's hard for you.

it was a go-pro camera on two different helicopter crew members' helmets who were seated in a running medivac helo. Did you expect more? Really?

"In seven hours of continuous fighting, Swenson braved intense enemy fire, and willfully put his life in danger against the enemy's main effort, multiple times in service of his fallen and wounded comrades, his unit, his country, and his endangered Afghan partners. Displaying conspicuous gallantry at the risk of his own life and well beyond the call of duty, Swenson would be a most deserving recipient of the Medal of Honor."

Jako-abridged-notes

The fuckery came from repeated calls for assistance that did not come. He choose to lead the troops out of the area, and did so with his life in a position of danger most of the time of the "retreat". He lost only a minimal number of troops on the escape.

The cocksuckery continued when he brought the lack of support to the attention of those above him. They did not like it, and low speed\high dragged his career. Some are still putting Ruutu (him) in an corner in some sense.

Many of those part of that incident continued to fight for him to return to service and get some type of bravery and valor award. They got in touch with many of the right poeple for MoH to rightfully happen. Some of those people I know from other circles in my life.

Finally, I am amazed at how many people (outside of IHN), gripe more about his hair cut than celebrate what he did. And these are military types.

From what I have heard of the story his premonitions on the escape were very radar like.

Edit - BTW, I love that reference, and I have won many bar bets on the the question of who drank that.

For the record the high and tight comment was more an observation than a gripe.

You might be surprised. Combat units have a... weird relationship. Tough to describe, it is like a hyper-focus. I didnt watch the video but familiar with the event. My guess is he didnt even think twice about it.

I got to meet a MoH winner (Allen Kellogg) in 1997 when I was in, at a USMC ball. He was a guest of the commanding general of 2nd Battalion. I only got to shake his hand but when you see it up close it inspires awe.

Military thing. Long hair parted down the middle and grape soda consumption was equated with undesirable traits in a GI for old school Air Force NCOs. Kind of a running joke when I enlisted. Not sure if it was throughout the services or not.

And I'm just poking fun at Biscuit's reaction to my comment aboot the guys hair. If I ever had the honor of breathing the same oxygen as this guy the last thing I'd be concerned aboot was how clean shaven and in reg his hair cut was.
