Nightengale says Soriano has informed the Cubs what teams he will go to. No deals yet.

I heard on the radio that if the Cubs get rid of Soriano, they will end up eating all of his contract except for $2M. So essentially the Cubs are getting rid of Soriano for $2M...is it really worth it? He's still a decent player.
If you eat the money and get real prospects back for him, e.g. packaged with Dempster to LA nets a Zach Lee and a nice prospect or two, it is. If you are eating the money and getting shit back then of course not.

It's only worth it if the prospect they got back is around B- grade or so. Otherwise they might as well keep him until the offseason and then re-evaluate the trade market.

Heyman is saying that Dodgers are in serious talk for Victorino. Don't see how Philly doesn't hold out for Lee, Webster, or Reed in a deal.

It was very likely Soriano would have waived NTC to LA.

That's how I see it. Plus, Soriano is the only real current threat in the lineup outside of Castro and Rizzo... at least until LaHair figures it back out... if he figures it back out. I don't see the point in trading Soriano and ALL of his contract just to get some washout scrub spec. If that's all we're likely to get and we're going to pay him anyway, wouldn't it be better to keep a hold of him until another power threat enters the lineup? I'm not so concerned about LaHair's development, as he's reached his prime and he is what he is going to be at this point. I am concerned about Castro and Rizzo. Soriano provided good protection for LaHair, which was a good bit of his success before he moved to RF daily and then had Rizzo come up a week later. Since then, he's tanked hard. I would hate to see the same thing happen to Rizzo with Soriano gone... and all for some scrub of a spec AND paying the vast majority of his contract off.

Because Victorino isn't worth that much. Maybe Webster or Reed... but certainly not Lee. He's a FA at the end of the season, overpaid, and having a bad year. He's also not been very good in the field this year. As it is, they got Martin and Lindbloom. Martin's an interesting spec, but I don't think he has the stuff to make it in the bigs. Lindbloom is a solid reliever. It also seems like a pretty even swap... unless Victorino suddenly wakes up in LA, which isn't all that likely.

Yeah but with the Reds backing away from their ridiculous price I thought it would be higher than Martin and Lindbloom. Not a bad deal for LA. It appears likely that the Dodgers aren't dealing Lee or Webster no matter what.

I'd love to play for ANY MLB team... pennant race or last place.... great city or impoverished war zone.

Yeah, but I'd rather play for the Giants if I had a choice :D

The Cubs too, of course.

Pence to Giants, Victorino to Dodgers. Now we know where Soriano is NOT going.

If I had my druthers... it would be the Rangers or the Cubs.... but the Giants, Yankees, Angels, Nationals would all be pretty high up there as well.

Source says Cubs and Tigers reached point of exchanging names on Alfonso Soriano. Tony Campana and Luis Valbuena were other possible pieces.

Kaplan is saying the Cubs are hard at work to trade Sori to Detroit. Money appears to be the hangup now, but that seems odd since the Cubs would eat money on everyone to get prospects.

I think the issue is that the Cubs want prospects back and not the money, but perhaps I could be wrong.
