  2. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Fire
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Chicago State Cougars
  2. DePaul Blue Demons
  3. Illinois-Chicago Flames

Why do the Cubs get espn coverage over the Sox?

:jackson:

Really though, there's been times that SportsCenter hasn't even bothered to show Cubs highlights this year and last year.

Let's take over 2nd place in the division tonight! You can't reach 1st place before you get to 2nd place, so let's take one more step in the right direction and let's take it to the Indians tonight!

I like your thinking!

thanks, i just don't want people getting ahead of themselves and saying that the sox are for sure gonna take the division and that kind of thing. one step at a time and then you can celebrate.

Even if ratings was true are you saying two teams fighting for division crowns isn't better then Cubs v Cards?

Cubs-Cards is just one of those special rivalaries in sports though. I agree that it is silly that the Sox don't get coverage when they are "in it" and the Cubs aren't, but that rivalary is one of those games where you can throw out the records, as cliche as that is.

I hear what you are saying and I love Cubs/cards. But showcasing that rivalry over "playoff" baseball is just hurting everyone involved including
MLB, espn, advertisers, fans, teams, etc

Eh I can see that to a point. If it was the last week of the season and it was hypothetically White Sox versus Tigers in a 3 game set with the Tigers with a 2 game lead clearly those games will be a lot better, but even in the middle of August a great traditional rivalary can be as interesting. I do think you are correct in feeling slighted, but that is more because ESPN doesn't focus on anything this side of the Appalachians.

ESPN viewers don't care about the AL Central. That's why. People on the west and east coast are most of the viewership of ESPN. They don't care about the central. They want a rivalry they know about. Not every person watching ESPN is a super fan that cares about important/non-important games.

Have the Sox even been on Sunday Night Baseball once this year? I really don't care about ESPN, but the Reds have been on a handful of times and this week's game is the Cardinals @ Cubs.

Yeah, they've been on Sunday Night Baseball a couple times. I know they were on Wednesday Night Baseball recently against the Yankees.
