Maybe the 8 seed is what the Sharks need to finally accomplish something in the playoffs. All they've done in the past is under-perform.

Hawks sitting pretty right now in the 6 seed, got a 5-point lead on No. 7 Phoenix and No. 8 Colorado. Hawks have same number of games played as the Yotes and a game in hand on the Avs. Win these next two and you probably put a vice grip on that spot.

sad, such low expectations that we are happy with a 6 seed.

I don't think anyone's happy with the six seed, but right now I'll settle for them getting into the playoffs and getting what appears to be a favorable first-round matchup.

If they somehow play the Canucks (barring they get that chance again) & still have no Toews, then adios.

They have no one that can match-up with Kesler.

The 6th seed seems fine with me too for the sole reason it allows the easiest winning chance. If we can win in that first round and play well, there is a good chance the team could build some confidence and momentum, barring any injuries.

I, too, believe Nashville is the biggest threat to the 'Hawks. They're just a pain in the ass and the 'Hawks can't play with their style. I wouldn't mind playing Detroit. The 'Hawks can play with them and the Red Wings are falling like flies due to injuries.

I don't know why you would want anything more or less than a 6th seed.

Some big games tonight...

LA vs SJ - hoping for a regulation win
Dal vs Phx - whoever wins this game is in 3rd place
Cal vs Col - another big game

Suddenly the 5th and 4th seeds don't look all that impossible, eh?

Never would've expected that about three weeks ago.

Such a terrible lost season now isn't really. A hot start, rough middle and what is shaping up to be a strong finish. If there's a prefered way to do things, I would say that's it.

Toews coming back would be enormous.

If you'd said that Toews would miss 2-3 weeks back in February, I would've written off the playoffs.

Just think ... if this team continues playing at it's level with their best player returning to the lineup?

How good could this team get?

yup

its not just that they're winning and its not just that they're winning against good teams and doing it without their best player...

its how they're playing defense. bringing in oduya as a dependable d man that can eat minutes has helped just about everyone... from the goaltenders to leddy and keith. everyone is playing better with just a little more help back there.

and then there's kane more than carrying the load in the captain's absence ...

just as quickly as things snowballed downhill during the 9 game shitfest, things have gotten better. now if they could just get the powerplay in shape....

I'll really start going nuts if that happens.

I shrugged off that Oduya trade, not thinking he'd do much of anything, but he's really solidified the D, as you said.

These last 10 games the Hawks have come as close to being as defensively responsible as the Cup team was. Not there yet, but it's the best play in their own zone I've seen in the last two years.

Ya just hope that they're not peaking in March and can ride this wave into the postseason.

Sixth would be the best matchup, I'd think.

After that, I'll take Detroit over Nashville. Don't like how they'd stack up against the Preds.

wings are just about the most favorable matchup for the hawks that exists in the western conference

I'd rather play Detroit than Nashville.

Nashville plays a tight-checking game that forces the Hawks to work for every inch of ice. Physical play is not the Hawks strong-suit. I know they toughed out a win against St. Louis, but I wouldn't expect that philosophy to work in a 7-game series.

Detroit, meanwhile, plays a bit more of an open style of hockey that would allow the Hawks some room in the neutral zone, building up speed into their attack. Plus, Detroit isn't as much of a dump-and-chase team like the Preds are, they'd rather carry it into the zone and set up plays off of that. The Blackhawks D fare better stopping opponents' rushes at the blue line as opposed to chasing pucks flipped over their heads.
