I mentioned in another thread.. not excusing his errors but id bet for every error he has probably saved at least 2 hits with his range and great plays..

If he saves at least 2 hits with his range, there are a bunch of SS who save at least 3-4 hits for every error.

Castro leads the majors, again, in errors while ranking 10th in Total Chances, 21st in Range Factor and 76th in DWAR on ESPN stats rankings.

OR.....

27th out of 27 qualified SS in UZR, UZR/150, ErrR and 25th out of 27 in RngR on Fangraphs.*

Range factor says thats not true. But, until we have another replacement for him. I find this bitching nonsense.

P.S. I know you are a Sox fan.

Look, Alexei has become a bum too, so this isn't a bias.
And you are right, his range factor shows it is not true. He's awful at being ranked 24 out of the top 30 guys.

Castro career range factor per 9 is 4.46. League average over that span is 4.33.

Last year: Castro 4.69. League average 4.26.

Castro has been below league average, but posted his best last year when people said he regressed. He is having a rough time right now. No doubt about it, but people are going overboard.

I provided my stats from ESPN showing his RF as #24 out of the top 30.
It's also my understanding that not every site computes RF the same way.
