For 10 years I spent 3-4 days a week in Iowa for business in the Quad cities. People live there for the quality of life, zero traffic issues, lower cost of living. It's a better place to raise kids than in hell hole called Chicago. Schools are better. People are better human beings

They are very urban and many of them travel the world as it's a 40 minute commuter flight to O'Hare. Some of the smartest business people I know wrok there. Great golf courses. Mainstream bands play in the local arena

You remain a fucking moron

Yeah, I'm in NWI, but it's still trash. Other than the taxes though. Illinois kills in taxes.

I've never noticed this honestly.

We have a flat income tax and I make a very healthy salary.

You talking more like property taxes (mine are 4-5k a year)?

Or sales taxes? Gas and alcohol are taxed hard in Cook County.

Sales tax is definitely higher. I've been taxed more state tax since working in Illinois, but the jobs I had in Indiana didn't pay shit so there's that. And looking at houses, seems I can get a better one in NWI for the same cost. Indiana definitely has lower property tax as well, most places I've seen that I could afford are around 1200-1500 a year.

Is that where they have the cult of hot blondes in leggings?

yes, and Iowa city but I’m approaching the age that IC can be a bit creepy lol.

On an unrelated note, I attempted to move to Chicago a few years back and the work opportunity didn’t work out. I also had plans to move to Dallas in June and my company axed it due to covid/hiring freeze. Actually worked out as they are forecasting to have that same position available in 2021 in Dallas or Phoenix so fingers crossed I am no longer in Iowa in a year. It’s fine here, but ready to live outside the state for a few years.

You are actually correct but I would say its not that cheap. High property, state income and sales tax

Agreed, but consider lower housing costs, lower restaurant costs. Services like plumbing, tree trimming, electricians, lower gas taxes, etc are less

I'd like to leave Indiana eventually, just don't know where I'd like to go. Plus, my whole family is in this general area so it would be tough leaving them all behind.

Gotta look for a place that doesn't have shitty cold nasty winters and shitty hot humid summers.

And weed. Honestly, winter doesn't bother me, and I'd be fine in a place like Colorado. i thought it was gorgeous when I was out there. Humidity is an absolute no go.

Flagstaff. Just legalized so the housing market hasn't gotten the Cannabis bump yet, cold winters in the mountains but great summers and no humidity.

Leaving is something I am seriously considering once I finish school and hopefully become an electrician.

That place is hopping too. It is an old city, but also a college town (NAU) it is fun and chill.

If you are set on Colorado I would say look more Trinidad or Ft Collins and less Denver metro or Boulder.

Not set on anywhere, just saying Colorado would be in play. Arizona would as well. It's not something I've seriously looked at tbh.

id give extra looks at places with no state income taxes. You said humidity is a no go, so forget Tennessee Florida and Texas lol. But there’s Washington state, Nevada, Wyoming, and Alaska
