During the Olympics I can remember those same no name players asking for autographs and such after the Olympics were over. What a story to tell your children you actually played with an HOF potential player ect ect..

10 day break between games? What the hell are they doing in Europe? Whats the point in playing in a league to stay conditioned if you have a 10 day nap btw games?

Should create a lock out leagues when this shit happens. Take a few states/provinces close to each other form some teams put out a little schedule and tour around smaller arenas doing a 50/50 split of revenue btw the lock out league/players and charities of the local communities they play games in.

I know this is all impossible lol. Just being dumb. 10 day lay off...what sort of shit league is Kaner playing in?

There are a couple of breaks, four to be exact, in the European leagues over the season so that the national teams of Sweden, Finland, Russia and the Czech Republic can play in the European Hockey Tour. They are mainly used to choose players for the national team for bigger tournaments such as the World Championship and Olympics if they are held that year.

Just what RK said... the guys who are getting nixed for players like Kane take it as a badge of honor.

Yeah, I could see that for a while. But if you end up benched most of, or the whole season, while trying to become the next Kane, Malkin...I could see it wearing thin on them.

I would think so too. For many of these guys who want a stint in the NHL this is their only showcase arena. Im sure they like the thrill of playing with some of the worlds best but like any pro player no matter what league you want to play and get as much ice time as possible. I doubt the euro league players dont love the game and playing any less than NHLers.

My thoughts exactly---I am on board with the NHL mandating this himbo-ification website change for all teams once hockey resumes some day.

Sounds like you already got a "fantasy" league started.

Like a WHA?

i actually think the players should create another WHA. Go ahead and agree to this contract, but start working behind the scenes to create a different league altogether.

I have said that hockey deserves better then the NHL.

Unfortunately They'd have no buildings to play in. The Logistics would make that completely impossible. WHA Failed miserably.

I am sure the players can find sheds to play in. They won't be 15k+ stadiums, and probably shittier ice, but if they control the things that they complain about most....officiating, logistics, and so on.....then they will either A- make a league worth rooting for or B-get a better understanding what the owners deal with.

The argument can be made that the WHA failed cause they payed some players way above what they could afford.....kinda like some NHL teams are doing.

If they stayed within relative close proximity to each other, say like the original 6, it could work. Maybe more Canadian teams now that the monetary differences aren't there anymore.

WHA failed because it was competing with a a brand that already had a solid history and fan backing. Plus marketing dollars. Only way another pro hockey league exists in north america is if it has zero competition and can carry the nostalgia which the NHL already owns. History of the pro game is too large and is the main marketing tool in hockey. As long as the NHL logo is on everything hockey related in north america no other league will ever be good enough for a true fan base. Well that's how Canadians view it anyways. Mine aswel call Canada "NHLanda" because that league is just too culturally significant. Taking the NHL away and trying to replace it would be like taking college football away in the states and replacing it with soccer.

I totally get that. But could the players start another league in 5 years? i bet they could.

All i am saying is people are bitching about the fact this is the 3rd work stoppage under Bettman. People are are complaining that the NHL has lied to us fans, and is screwing us over repeatedly. How do you stop it? By not spending money on it.

The NHLPA would never be for that. 6 teams? You have 300+ Players!

Would NEVER work no matter how good of an idea it is.

The WHA failed because they had zero revenue, added to what they paid Bobby Hull.

Very true. I see it as an addiction though. Im not spending any money on NHL merchandise right now and I will say I won't spend $$ like I ever used to on it. But I know that I will get caught up with the game again when it returns and I won't be able to stop myself from spending $$. Maybe not as much as before but I will spend.

I hear you though. This lockout is going to hurt the league for years to come. The fans deserve an alternative but I just don't know what that is. Neither side has stepped up to actually show us fans they care about us. They can say what they want to in the press but neither have actually taken any real actions. Just empty words. It's not like the other lockouts and strikes this time around because the economical climate around NA or the world for that matter isn't the same as the last disputes. I don't think this time around enough fans have the energy to care about all the details btw these two sides. I know I haven't really paid any attention to the proposals and counter proposals. I just flat out don't care this time around probably because economically and financially Im not doing that great so when millionaires fight millionaires over $$$ I really don't want to hear their sob stories right now.

I wasn't saying 6 teams, just citing the original 6 relative close proximity. If the different leagues consolidated the unions, from minor league to the NHLPA and make a huge PA then it wouldn't matter. Or, if the players were keen on the idea, they could disband the union. If the own the league they are in, they wouldn't need it.

I realize that wouldn't happen, and the recent issue with the CHLPA thing doesn't exactly boost my confidence in any union.

Again, i know this wouldn't happen. Just pointing out a possible avenue.

Absolutely. If they really cared about playing or revenue, they would have started negotiating in July, and met everyday since the start.
