well personally i thought ferguson was a huge reach. i didn't really understand the choice there. i think he can have a role but i question more if he's even an NFL caliber player rather then where he fits.
sutton i actually liked a lot coming out of college but i see him as strictly a 3 technique. whatever else fangio does or doesn't do, one constant is his desire for versatility. can his 3 technique slide to the 5 or 1 or 0 if the offense gives a different look? with sutton, the answer is no. he's an interior gap splitter and that's it. it would not surprise me to see him traded for a late round/conditional pick in camp.
it's always hard to gauge draft classes in situations where they have an entirely new class in their 2nd season. the bears philosophy is very different then it was last year and only time will tell if any of these guys fit. the protection of being a "high" draft pick means nothing with a new staff. i think there's a decent chance neither ferguson or sutton are on the bears come opening day. i mean, honestly, i could see a situation where the only player from last years draft left is fuller.
Ferguson looked the part of an NFL caliber player last year. Even had the two back to back batted down passes in that one game. The question the op is posing here is whether he fits the 3-4 system.
