Will is something of an enigma. He hasn't blown anyone away, but it is so goddamn hard to really get a feel for anyone who played on D last year. The so called experts were kissing the teams ass last year when he was selected. Will has a good attitude and he seems to be a team first guy. That kid was carrying an extra 40lbs in college to appease his coaches. The talent is there, hopefully Vic can find a niche for him.

They have plans for Ego and if Sutton drops down to to 285 he can be used quite effectively in the Justin Smith role.

Just imagine how differently you would feel about the team had they selected Jimmy Garoppolo over Ego Ferguson.

I don't think Sutton has anywhere near Justin Smith upside but I do think there will be plenty of opportunity for him to get on the field. I could see Ego dropping down to 295 or so and being a full-time 5tech who slides to nose in 43 looks.

I think both stick and both contribute. If any of the Emery D picks gets cut this summer it will be Shea Butter.

I think we are going to all be pleasantly suprized with how much they both contribute this year. Fangio is going to make a enourmous difference in how this defense looks and plays. I am not expecting the Niners D of 2012 or 2013 quite yet, but its going to be nothing like the Tucker era.... gona make Emery not look quite so bad I am affraid making good with some of his old draft picks ( except Vereen...not alot a faith he'll amount to much but hope I am wrong )

I think Ego surprises people this year... I am more curious to see what Sutton's role is this year. I was excited when they drafted him last year in 3rd round....

it's not a waste. they played well in previous schemes, at least flashed here and there, and we're CHANGING our DEF. nobody knew this was coming when they were drafted. they will start, or be depth, or they will be traded. not. a. waste.

I think Vereen played NB pretty well and should probably stick there and develop. However, our entire secondary depth is terrible especially at safety which probably dictates Vereen stays at safety. Do we even have a backup SS? Especially considering the current starter should be a backup. Hopefully Amos develops quickly he'll probably end up starting at some point due to injury.

Yep I agree Vereen belongs in the slot....

Its my understanding Rolle is going to start out at FS with Mundy at SS, so really I would imagin best case scenario is that Amos will get time to learn behind Rolle and maybe play some sub packages possibly even in the slot covering big TE's or WR's... with the hope he will be the long term replacement for Rolle down the road and start at FS someday.

Yeah...it felt wrong just typing it out. I never wanted Allen, but even I did not think he would have that bad a season. The point stands that we will find a way to use these guys.

(Allen can not be a twelve million dollar seatwarmer)

J.Allen will have 8-10 sacks next year as a OLB.

Obviously Sutton is not an ideal fit in this defense. That being said Sutton played in 3-4 fronts at ASU so the concepts and assignments will not be completely foreign to him. He played between the 3 and 5-technique and was successful at both. His 2012 Missouri tape has him rushing off the edge as a DE.

Again he's not an ideal fit and if he struggles the Bears likely will need to upgrade that spot to a player better suited for the position. However, it's too early to write him off and it's silly to call it a wasted pick since Emery saw the future as getting better with new talent on the 4-3 defense.

Figured people would be beyond making posts based on hindsight.
Yeah I think Fangio will find ways to get all his guys some playing time with the way he likes moving guys around and their play will decide how much playing time they'll get.

Both players dont fit the scheme its that simple. When a 2nd and 3rd round pick dont fit the scheme and dont look like future starters its a waste.

How does Ferguson doesn't fit this scheme? He fits perfectly as a 5tech space eating DE or an occasional NT....

2nd and 3rd tound picks normally has a good chance to be starters eventually. Ego and Sutton will not start in Fangio system.

Mark Bradley, Dan Buzuin, Shea they all played but we call them wasted picks.

did you know ka'deem carey has longer arms then will sutton? there's no way he can play outside in the NFL. zero. he has a better chance at nose then he does at 5 technique.
