I will swing "Danny Boy" anywhere I want! 'Merica!
Less dick swinging and general grab-assery -- more talking about how Tanaka will end up signing with one of the teams from LA for $160 million over 7 years.
So there's that.....Though I do love how ever topic turns into theo sucks or he doesn't. Ditto for the ricketts.
I'm honestly starting to believe that the Cubs are going to bid the most. The question is does he take less to be in an area he would prefer like LA. Can't wait for this to be over though.
It feels a need. I like the stuff. And it is nice for them to sign a big ticket free agent. Is there potential for this to go south? Definitely, especially if payroll remains at around 100 million during the length of the deal. But I would be very excited when it was signed.if he gets 170 million from the cubs do you agree with it?

A number 1 costs more than 170 million at this point in time. I am pretty confident that David Price will be in that 200 million range if he hit the open market.im hoping its anyone but the sox. 170 mil can get you a lot. he isnt projected to be a number 1

That is why spending on Tanaka makes more sense to me than a 7 year deal for Choo. Tanaka should offer several peak seasons while on this deal and so it isn't just about 2014. Fixing the offense is going to be about Bryant or Baez being the real deal. Adding Tanaka puts together a solid rotation with a deep bullpen at this point. It comes down to one of those guys being a middle of the order bat.My quandary is this, if the Cubs do indeed blow everyone else's offer away -- when the Cubs primary issue is an inability to score runs, why would your only true offseason acquisition be signing an unknown commodity for an overwhelmingly risky contract be your entire offseason. I've liked seeing the Cubs get active with their arbitration-eligible guys, but let's say the Cubs spend $150 on Tanaka. Wouldn't you rather have had them flesh our their roster a bit more then put all of their eggs in this one basket?
Don't get me wrong, I'll certainly enjoy the excitement that'd come with Tanaka joining the Cubs. He's got the chops to be an ace-caliber guy. He's young and I think he'll enjoy the challenge of leading a staff, but since the Cubs are still retooling and waiting for some of their younger position players to advance a bit more through the farm ranks, what exactly is this addition going to give us this season?
Well this sure makes it sound like that the field is offering 6 years 120 million with the D'Backs, Yanks and Dodgers all in that area. Angels appear to be offering less than that given the tenor of the report. Certainly leaves open the possibility that the Cubs are indeed blowing away the field with their offer which might be the only way to get him to sign here.lubs angling to sign Masahiro Tanaka made formal offers by Jan. 16, Nikkan Sports reports (Japanese link). The list of teams includes the Yankees, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, White Sox and Cubs, with nearly all clubs putting together offers worth more than $100MM over six years.
The Diamondbacks have made no secret of their pursuit of Tanaka this winter, and according to Nikkan, they've offered him a deal for six years and $120MM. Such a contract would be the largest in Diamondbacks history by a wide margin. "Like other teams, we're very interested," CEO Derrick Hall was quoted as saying at a recent meeting of MLB owners. "We want to win this competition." Owner Ken Kendrick also reportedly met with Tanaka directly during his recent tour of clubs in the U.S.
The Dodgers and Yankees are believed to have made equivalent offers, according to Nikkan, while comments by Angels owner Arte Moreno suggest that the team would have trouble fitting Tanaka into its budget. Overall, we appear to be nearing the stage in negotiations where the only step remaining is Tanaka's actual decision.
Tom Loxas, formerly of Cubs Den, is reporting that the Cubs offer is in 160 million neighborhood. Would assume that is over 7 years still because holy **** otherwise.

Hard to answer, but given the hoopla around it pretty remarkable that we just now are getting offers with a decision likely to be made in the next couple of days. Deadline is the 24th but everything has to be done by then which means that a decision is likely to be done by Tuesday or Wednesday.supposedly no one suppose to discuss their conversation with Tanaka in respect to his side wishes.. always amazes me how "sources" come up with knowledge of what being offered etc... who talking?

listen ya little 13 year old theogasm ****. i behave when there arent little dopes like you chiming in. I behave when fans are "real" when it comes to their team.
I thought I was "irrelevant" to you.
and Im far from bias. Ask the vet cub fans, they know what gets me goin.
so if you dont like what i say, take your energy and write an article about something...like how he chooses the best coffee at starbux.

No clue but latest update I've seen on twitter is that no team has been ruled out. Probably won't know until Tuesday.I figured all teams made their initial offer upon their visit and he returned to japan to go over offers.. wonder if he returns early in week to give teams a chance to up offers..
also if he returns to LA to make announcement then go to team for official signing or just go right to city for announcement and signing.

Concidering the Yanks, Dodgers and the backs are all over .500 teams the Cubs and the Sox would have to blow them out of the water.
160 mil for 7 years puts him at 32 where he can line up a 3 year deal. A 6 year deal puts him at 31 and he may get a 5 year deal.
Bottom line is this deal will pay more than his next one. He has to take the Cubs offer if it is 50 mil more.
If we are talking 20-25 mil I'll be he goes to LAD. Better situation for his wife.
I believe his choice is the Dodgers but he would have to be stupid to pass on 50 mil.
