No, sorry back to back first round exits aren't anything to be that excited about.

And Tampa Bay relied just about entirely on their farm system... At least they got to the World Series.

Back to back 1st round losses. I'll take it over minimal success and shitty decades. Ask Milwaukee, KC, Cleveland, Toronto, Seattle, NYM, Nats/expos among other teams if they'd take that.

They weren't as home grown as you think. Aki Iwamura was a free agent. Carlos Pena was a free agent. Troy Percival was, Grant Balfour was traded there, cut, then signed to a minor league deal. Hinske was a role player. Bull pen players and other smaller signings. Longo, Crawford, and BJ upton were the only homegrown starters in that line up.

They had a shit ton of trades fall their way and got hot at the right time. That's what it takes. That's balance. What were they missing? Clutch hitting and brains. Why the **** was Andy Sonnenstine allowed to start game 4 of the WS?

And they didn't win the world series. Still waiting.

Theo signed Sonnanstine in Dec. 2011.

I'm sure he told him he wasn't going to start Game 4. :smug:

I still don't get this whole Theo "boy blunder" thing.

You all realize Hoyer is the sitting general manager, and does the day-to-day operations, right? Theo was just brought in to give this thing any kind of credibility. If the Cubs tried to do this rebuild without Theo Cubs fans would have revolted by now.

Haha you really think Hoyer makes decisions by himself. Theo is the president because the Cubs couldn't take him from Boston unless they gave him a higher position

Never said decades. I would pretty disappointed if my team was satisfied with 1st round losses. And yea the Rays are a perfect example of what the Cubs want to do.

Crawford, Longoria, Price, Upton, Shields were a strong core that they developed and then added pieces around them. The Cubs are following that model of hoping that they can build a core with Baex Bryant Almora etc and then surround it with pieces and I believe they will go out there and add an established all star veteran within the next two years. That's always been the plan so anyone who thinks the entire Cubs roster will be homegrown is being ridiculous.

1) I wrote it :)
2) neither Illinois state scholar high honors Lewis grad
3) this isn't my original thought. It comes from people that no way more than anyone here

I would probably use better grammar if you're going to boast about being a scholar. I also discuss with someone who knows more than anyone here and has 4 World Series rings.. :jawdrop:
