What do I enjoy? A winning team. Want me to be happy and Mr. Sunshine? Get the President and GM to put a legitimate, competitive product on the field. Instead, we get doozies like this from the cubs convention from the horse's mouth:

Then again I must ask why are you a cubs fan? It's not a secret they haven't won in seemingly forever. You've actively chosen them for some reason and it damn sure wasn't winning as the past 100 years have shown. You obviously don't agree with the direction the team is going. So what's holding year here? There's plenty of teams with a much better history of winning who likely are following a plan you would approve of. No one is making you stay a cubs fan. If that's all you care about then why are you making yourself miserable? Again, you chose them not the other way around and you've chose to continue to come to one of their message boards to seemingly complain as though we have some control over your issues.

All I'm trying to say here is certainly there's something better you could be doing with your time. If winning is all you care about then go root for a team who wins until/if the cubs ever get competitive or just ignore them until the time where they are relevant. Why continue to stay when you're obviously getting nothing out of it?

Winning is all any fan should care about asshole. Fans want there teams to WIN, this is not some abstract concept that is difficult to understand.

They must have matched the Cubs offer.

Not surprised here. Yanks needed a 1/2 starter and with the Yanks history of Japanese players it was a natural fit.

Just comes down to the Cubs need to prove that they are fielding a winning product before and legit F/A will come over. This is 2 years in a row a ace has passed them by and have come in 2nd on a manager.

The whole take their time method is not appealing to the players. All of the great place to play is hog wash

Tough blow. Again. Being a Cubs fan is a series of tough blows and let-downs. Prepare for another 95-loss season, fellas. It's getting tough to stay positive at this point. We have no pitching in the farm system. The next two drafts better be 90% pitching prospects.

Any good FA's next summer? We'll have money to spend and should finally be prepared to stop rebuilding.

Sucks missing out on Tanaka, at least the Cubs were trying. Damn Yankees seem to get what they want everytime! Hopefully the Cubs first round pick this season will be a starting pitcher.

Not really.

I'm expecting Theo to sign Baker now. The best we can hope for is that they are willing to trade excess depth for Price this year.

At this point I would get Baez up and plug him in at 2B this summer. Olt I'm plugging in at 3B out of S/T.

At the ASG I'd have Baez on the team and then cut Barney. Valbuena and Murphy still have some value as UI depth.

Alcantara I would move over to CF. Then I would try to work a deal with the Rays to send over Almora/Soler/Vogelbach/Johnson for the rights on Price.

Price is going to cost around 30 mil to retain but he is a legit proven ace so he is worth the investment.

At that point I would evaluate Shark. If Baker is better than him I'm saving some future resource and trading him out. If he steps up to legit #2 status then I'm extending him.

The thing is that is the way to build. Rays are going to have to get what they can and the F/A market is not going to net a legit #1. They are going to have to let go of a few prospects now.

Great. My favorite 'why are you a fan if you dislike what they're doing?'

Nowhere on my cubs fan card does it say I have to love and slurp every single move made by the Boy Blunder. I'm allowed to disagree and dislike any and every move if I please, and I do it with many of my teams. I think the bears were idiots for taking Jon Bostic over Art Brown in the 2nd round (still do). I thought the blackhawks were idiots back in 2009 when every scout was saying 'take Erik Karlsson, he's a top 7 talent that fell outside the top 10' (stud Dman in ottawa) and the Blackhawks took Kyle Beach (no longer in the league). Ottawa took him seconds after the BLackhawks.

I think the bulls are fools for holding onto players too long and believing Derrick Rose can do it by himself. I think Deng should have been dealt when he told the team 'I'm playing in the Olympics instead of fixing my wrist via surgery and getting it properly healed after 4 months.'

I think the cubs new regime have been nothing but bullshitting used car salesmen who are trying to sell a non-guaranteed method of success as some secret, only few people know about it idea.

Now its obvious you're next response will be 'you're just a hater.' Though you're wrong. There have been numerous times I love what the front offices do of the teams I root for. I love how the bears know what offense is. I love how the Hawks have the best chemistry out of any team I've ever seen and are committed to being contenders for the next decade. The bulls......i have a host of ideas of how to fix them.

The cubs are sucking for the sake of sucking to sell prospects. I hate it. And I'm allowed to.

I've yet to see you make a single positive comment about the cubs in any capacity. Whatever, I tried to reason with you. Clearly this isn't worth my effort. Hate away, I'll just ignore.

Glad the Tanaka crap is over. I hope the front office now can get more creative with their money. I've long said taking on Either makes sense for the cubs. I'm not sure the front office will though. Reports were they may just roll the payroll into next year. Another possibility is a team that is out of it at the dead line wanting to shed payroll but general those aren't younger players.

Not that it matters now, but I have to ask that if you are trying to acquire something and truly believe this said person fits into your program, then why did the brass ever say that they will not be outbid on Tanaka?

I feel that they could have been passive about it and not tipped off the Yankees that they were going to be big players.

Not saying that Tanaka would not have still chosen New York, but I don't feel it is good practice to tip your hand to anyone. The Cubs need to be that team that snatches a player when other teams think that they will not be in on them. Just my hungover opinion.

Oh well, looks like a top 3 pick in the draft this year so we will get a good pitcher anyways, but it sure would have been nice to get two.

You already know my feelings about the price paid. That said, I don't think it matters if they tipped their hands because the agent would have done it for them. Maybe they gave the yanks time to clear budget but they were already doing that anyways to try and stay under $189 mil. I think it's a non-issue. As for the "wont be outbid stuff," I always thought it was silly because it's hyperbolic. If someone offered tanaka $10 trillion dollars they were going to get out bid. Perhaps it was a dumb comment to make but I think it was more for effect. That is to say they were trying to explain why they weren't spending in FA. The way I always read it was "we plan to be among the top offers and maybe even more." Regardless, I'm not that upset about missing out on him given his price.
