Chicago has a high population of japanese people. Maybe he finds this to be a home.

And no offense, but does his wife wanting to be a singer really matter? What if the Cubs offer an extra $10MM. Does he turn that down so she can be a singer? It's not like they are going to be hurting for money..

If they Cubs land him, I could see it being a 6-7 year deal, north of $130MM with a chance for Tanaka to opt out after 3 years.. If he doesn't like it, he has a chance to opt out and go somewhere else.

Compared to New York or the West Coast? Yeah......no. Chicago isn't big on Japanese, guy. The sushi restaurant you went to for lunch last week doesn't count as a comforting, cultural setting for a foreign guy to go to and hang out.

And may think the cubs will be able to shut up a girlfriend and her dreams with money. Have you ever had a girlfriend? Especially one with money? One who doesn't get her way?

Obviously, not. Aren't you like....14?

Why would the Dodgers eat money and get nothing in return for Ethier?

Those two are NOT NOTHING! They are precious, rare, invaluable cubs prospects that have more value than any other teams' prospects because they are in the projected 2017 line up. These two can hit like......6 and 7 in the future powerhouse. If anything, the dodgers would be fleecing the cubs for these masterpieces!

Didn't he visit Chicago on one of the days when it was like the arctic? This alone might make the discussion of her comment moot.

Well we got the Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Shameless, and other shows/movies being filmed here

:cmonman:

You can't even compare that to NYC's media market much less the allure of Hollywood.

The bottom line here is if his wife has a career also then is it not just his decision. She is going to have some say so about it and if he has 2 markets to choose frome that supports her career then that is the right thing to do.

Chicago is not known as a major media market. It is along the lines of Houston right now. Not really a media hub but a large city.

For a person trying to establish a career you go to the major markets. LA is #1. NY for theater.

If we were talking about a JPop singer or radio persona then It would matter less.

Again this is Theo's big play and it is blowing up in his face and the posters are grasping at straws here.

I just don't agree. There's plenty of sports stars who have singer/model/entertainer girlfriends/wives that don't play in LA or NY. Hell, there's shows on VH1 for this shit. Plus as I've pointed out before it's not like she can't still have a house in LA as well as the way the MLB schedules work where you're rarely home for an extended period of time anyways. If the salary is the same then sure pick the city that works for your wife. However, Tanaka has probably 10-15 years tops to make as much money as he can in baseball and to hopefully live comfortably for the rest of his life. And that's not even worrying about potential injury. I don't see him taking a deal with LA or NY if he can get $10 mil else where. In other words, money will be the most important factor. After that you can throw in wife concerns and chances to win now and anything else.

The problem I have with the wife logic is people act as though she can't still do her thing without him in the same city. Additionally, what guarantee if any is there that she'll even be able to find work in LA? I mean does literally anyone here even know her first name? It's not like she's well known in the states. And as I've said before, even if he does end up in LA it's not like she's going to follow him around on every road trip so they are going to spend a lot of time away from each other anyways. I really feel like it's a non-factor and the only reason writers bring it up is because they literally have nothing else to write about at this point.

i think now the cubs get him. i also think they need to get him for a variety of reasons. say a 5 year deal...i mean they wont be competitive until year 3 at best of his contract.

He has a Theo avy. Let him :fap: to his hero.

O sorry I trust someone who has two World series rings. I don't get why everyone thinks they are GM's all the sudden and know better moves than professional general managers
