LOL no there aren't. Nobody hated him from day one and wanted him to fail. We all had high hopes to start with. The reason the Bears fans who want rid of Cutler want rid of Cutler is because he's failed to be even close to what we hoped he could be when we traded for him (a legit franchise QB). If you think that these people would be upset if he were to suddenly succeed in being that then your logic is profoundly fucked.

Almost hate to say it, but Cutler is a franchise QB. Sure, you would like to have a young Aaron Rodgers, but the reality is that top tier QBs are very rare, and only a handful of teams will get one. If there were 28 or so QBs that were better than Cutler you may have a point, but he is in the top half of the league with potential if utilized intelligently. What QB below Rivers would you rather have than Cutler?

What people are clamoring for when they lament not having a franchise QB is not having someone who isnt Cutler (SWIC). We have all (except for the 12 year olds that sometimes post here) seen that it can be much much worse than having Cutler as an option. Hes not great, and may never be, but he is functional.

Point taken, this year he's off to a rough start though.

And yeah, never gaudy numbers in the regular season though those games against New Orleans and Indianapolis in the playoffs were something for sure.

That indy game in particular.... I hate the chiefs and I even felt awful for him.
The chiefs were crushing the colts, and injury after injury piled up, all culminating in that crazy ass-heads up andrew luck fumble recovery and score at the goal line. Awesome game.

I love how convinced you are that Pace will do what needs to be done regardless of any extenuating factors

I hope you're right

I'm not convinced. I'm just not afraid of fan talk becoming reality, especially when the team has already looked to move said player.

Wut?

Just cause they gave up 2 1st rounders...doesn't make him a franchise QB now.

How long has he been the clear starter for the Chicago Bears?

???

So since he's a starter on a team that went 5-11 last year, he's a franchise QB?

There is no clear definition of what a franchise QB is

I beg to differ.
His best 2 seasons in chicago in terms of passing tds was 09 and 14- he was 8th in the league and 10th in the league. Both years he was #1 in interceptions in the league.

Aside from those 2 seasons, he hasnt been in the top 10 for anything.
Look around the league and check out the middle tier guys that occasionally crack the top 10 in passing categories (the good categories). If your definition of "franchise" qb is that loose, then there are a stack of middle tier guys that will come in above Jay.

Being local, many here seem to think Jay is the only guy who faces adversity via coaches and lesser talent at times... but many guys around the league suffers from the same crap.
When you factor in health, the case for Cutler gets even weaker.

Cutler is just a guy. a highly paid guy, but just a guy.

You guys confuse "Elite QB" with "Franchise QB"

An elite QB is someone like Brady, Rodgers, Manning, Brees.

A Franchise QB is a Quarterback who stabilizes the position for a significant number of seasons for a specific team, by being the clear starter year in and year out.

Delhomme was a Franchise QB for the Panthers.

Hasselbeck was a Franchise QB for the Seahawks.

There's a big gap between those elite guys and Cutler though, that gap has numerous franchise QB's in it. I think you are the one that is confused.

So cutler would be considered a lower tiered franchise QB

Even by your (absurd) standard, Jay Cutler is one of the least accomplished "franchise" QB's in recent memory and maybe in NFL history.

Delhomme was on the panthers for the same duration as Jay with the bears... 3 years in the playoffs (5 wins), a super bowl appearance, and a 53-37 record.
Hasselbeck was on seattle 10 years, 5 in the playoffs, 5-6, one super bowl, 3 pro bowls.

Those are light years different than what Cutler has brought chicago.
