I think the thing with the Turco tripping call is that far more often than not there is no call on that play especially if the goalie is making an obvious attempt at the puck.

Kind of like the Kopecky interference call. More often than not that sequence is not called interference unless it obviously prevents the player from getting the puck. In this case the player would need to go through the net.

And no I am not complaining about the officiating, just could be the way that officiating team is going to call things.

Question for you goalies (and I only saw the replay once, I'll have to watch it again later):

On the goal that Turco gave up... he seemed to have his pads completely covering the left side of the net, but appeared to turn to his right which opened up like a 5-6" space where the Canucks tapped it in. Did he simply lose his ground or was he trying to get up?
....I will say that he looked awful small in the net on the shootout however. He was beaten badly on all three shooters, even Samuelsson despite the fact he didn't connect. We might miss Niemi in that area. Niemi was great in shootouts....
That's what I told my son after the game; Niemi shined in the SOs. Turco didn't look so hot. But I give him a pass since this is the first time we've seen him in one.... (plus, we won  )
Even without those TANGIBLES this team LEADS THE FUCKING LEAGUE and Division with 11pts in 8 games.
An early lead is fine, but the Hawks as of yesterday night have played the most games in the league, and everyone else in the division has 3 games in hand. I'm hoping they can get as many points as they can before the circus trip. They were very successful last season on that said trip, and perhaps history will repeat itself this season.

I thought last night was the most solid the Hawks have been all season. Hossa was amazing all game-- the puck continues to find him. Toews looked very good as well. Kudos to Turco and the D for playing solid. Lou had a great rebound game, and kept the Nucks in it. The rest of Vancouver looked anemic. Luckily the Mikael Samuelsson shot wide-- Turco was beat. I'm glad for the win, but it would have been really shitty to lose this one in the SO-- it was a goaltending treat.

Totally agree that the 'Hawks need to rack up some of the upcoming points before the other teams start closing that games in hand gap. Although 11 out of 16 points is, to quote Borat, very nice!

Yea I don't give a shit how many games in hand they have. 11 out of 16pts to start a season most said they'd have massive problems is awesome.

No shit there is a long way to go BUT they have kept ticking right along. Good thing Toews hit the post similar to Samulasson shooting the puck wide I guess. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Games in hand or not the Hawks have the best record in the league without two of their top guns hitting stride and probably best puck moving d man in the NHL to have played one game yet.

I'm impressed so far.

And Paul had Sammualson made his shot the Hawks would have had the next shot That wouldn't have beaten them.

Nice team game last nite, and got the W. Getting close to firing on all cylinders, but not quite there yet. Nonetheless, 4 wins in row, and 5 out of 6. A little scary if you think about it.

In my opinion, Turco is too small to play any other way. If he tried to be a straight butterfly goalie, he'd give up so much room up top that it would be like shooting fish in a barrel for these guys. He has to flop around and use his quickness to cover the amount of net he needs to cover. Its as simple as that. I will say that he looked awful small in the net on the shootout however. He was beaten badly on all three shooters, even Samuelsson despite the fact he didn't connect. We might miss Niemi in that area. Niemi was great in shootouts.

Overall, I thought the shots were a bit misleading. I thought that was our best defensive effort of the year all the way around. Lots of blocked shots and guys sacrificing out there. I thought Boynton had his best game of the year, ditto for Seabs and Keith.
True, but ideally with Turkish Delight's athleticism, and once out O and D come around...we shouldn't need to get to the SO so much.

I really thought last night was the best defensive game that we have had all year long. Once again the "4th" line proves that not one of those guys should ever be scratched again, the speed on that line cannot be matched by any opponent.

I have to say that I'm rather excited by the fact that we have 11 out of 16 possible points and we are only going to get better IMO. It's still so early in the season and I think, given the small sample size, that we have nothing but good things ahead. I also think that Turco will start seeing less and less shots, hopefully he stays sharp.

One of the biggest things is that you can tell that this is a defending champ out on the ice, they KNOW how to win, they could have easily lost 3 of the 4 last wins, great teams find ways to win, we are doing that.

Nobody is talking about this, but why aren't they moving Stalberg into Pisani's spot? Pisani has shown little outside of the PK and Stalberg has speed and a sniper's touch. He's the one that should be playing with Bolland and Bickell, not with Dowell and Skille, no offense to the latter two.

Right before Stalberg scored last night, I said to my wife "they should move this guy up to the third line, he's got a lot of skill, more than he can show playing with these two guys.", and then the potted one over Luongo's left shoulder.

Funny that was the best line on the ice for either team last night. I'd leave him right where he is.

I was also thinking, move Bolland to the first line with Toews and Hossa...he has alot of talent to keep in the fourth line. At the very least try it for a game I don't think Kopy will mind not having his man crush on the ice with him for a game. I just see it having more of an explosive goal result.

I'm not necessarily disputing that, but I think long term we would get more out of his talents by putting him with guys who can feed him the puck rather than the pedestrian Dowell.

Admittedly I missed small parts of the game, and I'm not saying he had a bad game, but why did Kane get second star over Stalberg (who I thought had a great game overall) basically saying that his shootout goal means more than the regulation goal?

Boland is a center...Who is going to take his spot on the fourth line when you have two centers on the first line?

I completely disagree Whaler. The speed on that line is un matchable by most NHL teams. They were making the Canucks look just bad at times they were on the ice last night.

I think the player that gets the game-winning goal almost automatically gets a star. Kind of an unwritten rule. I didn't think Kane deserved a star either.

Yes, I'm well aware on how the shootout works.

I'm saying that Turco was beat on the last shot by Samuelsson. He just couldn't stick handle it enough to elevate it. Turco began to move thinking Samuelsson was going to deke. Luckily, the shot sailed wide.

I agree with you on being impressed. Then again, I expected them to get it together.
