Was anyone else pissed off about the icing call that Sharp was actually there first on? That's just what I was afraid of with the new icing rule and too much ref discretion.

Sharp CLEARLY would have got there first, yet it was ruled icing. The refs then huddled up and decided to move the faceoff to center ice. Olczyk actually said they made the right call and never mentioned it again.

"Right call" my ass. If the right call was made, Sharp would have possession of the puck behind the Sens net.

Yeah, I laughed when EO said they made the right call by moving the face off to center ice. The linesmen/refs only/really half-ass corrected the linesman's mistake.

look at these civilized rich folk going to games not starting fights with a shot in one hand while pulling down her blouse for more cleavage with the other.

Honestly as much of a stud as Toews was (and I'm not depreciating his hattie at all), had Crawford not stood on his head, this would have easily been 7-6. Team D was horrendous until the early 3rd period.

That needs to be fixed, especially since it seems #4 and #27 are carrying the D so far this year--not #2 and #7.

And as for Khabi and his play recently, I'm going to take the irrational conspiracy stance and say that obviously someone has replaed the good ol' Russian Standard vodka in his water bottle with some complete swill like Gray Goose or Ketel 1.

Yeah, Seabs looked like he wanted another plate of nachos, while Keith was serving up the cheese sauce.

Yeah, but Anderson made some great saves in the 1st and 2nd, himself, so it could have been 8-7 or 9-7, too. :eek:rcs-buttshake:

Regardless of how Anderson was, my point is that you can only expect your #1 goalie to steal so many games.

With the exception of 1 bad game Crawford has been in beast mode this year. Keith is playing up to 2011 form when he mailed the season in and Seabs doesn't look much better. Some of the star fwds have their own issues on Team D (like Kane and Sharp giving up on the play). And it's not like Keith and Seabs can claim being overworked--Keith is near 26 minutes a game along with Seabs, and Oduya and Hammer are both above 20 mins a game.

We can say what we want about Khabi blowing it, but he's a low-cost backup only used to bide time until Rannta is ready. When you have Norris-winning all-star defensemen on retirement contracts firing the puck into their own net you need to do something to give them a rectal craniectomy.

Is moving the faceoff to center ice how the rule is written after a bad call? If they don't miss the call, then they would have just let them play on correct?

I didn't read the rule entirely and I haven't seen this type of play happen yet.

Yes, if the ruling on the ice is changed from in ones favor to a mistake, the faceoff goes to center ice so no team has an "advantage" with faceoff location.

I just can't get excited over October hockey, fell asleep and missed a funny game. Oh well. Two points. Got to love how this team still manages to collect points even when they have obvious flaws in their games.

I think Kent Simpson is a better bet to bring up from Rockford than Raanta....here's his line in Toledo from last season...

Games -- 41

W -- 20

L -- 14

T -- 0

SPCT -- .912

GAA -- 2.36

SO -- 2

I understand those stats are ECHL but he's got WAY more experience with the NA rinks than Raanta at this point. Let Raanta sharpen his skills with the Hogs this season...and ANYTHING is better than the drunkard at this point.

I'm just throwing this out there, but Raanta isn't the answer to the backup goaltending problem. While he's super athletic, that makes up for the mistakes he makes in positioning and rebound control. He always seems slightly off his angle, which you can cover up better at the AHL level than you could at the NHL level. Also, he has a tendency to kick plenty of rebounds right back into the slot. I think he needs more time to fix a couple things, and he would be exposed if he came up to the NHL right now. Just my two cents.

IMO, you are spot-on with this assessment. I watched Rantta last night in the Hogs 5-3 loss to the Checkers. Just as you said, several times I saw Rantta off angle and he was not lit up because the shooter was an AHL plumber.

And, small sample size, but last night, goals 2, 3 and 4 were absolutely TERRIBLE. One was a wrister from the point, one was a closer in shot that leaked right thru him to put his team down 3-0. The Hogs absolutely dominated the game to tie 3-3, and then he played a low angle shot by not being square to the shooter and as usually happens when you do that, it squeaked in between his arse and the near post, so he cannot even cut it in the AHL right now, IMO. Rantta is not the answer right now. If CC gets hurt, we are severely exposed because we have no backup goalie.

I was watching the Ottawa feed. Anything to avoid the giggle twins.

Sharp was there first, and they said the center ice faceoff was a "my bad" according to the refs.

I would consider it a safe bet that this will continue to happen in the future.

Yea that was after the Ref went over and told him he had it wrong. Not only was Sharp there first, there was another Hawk coming from the other side that would also have been there first. It was basically a 2 on 1 to the puck.

The reason they move it to Center ice was exactly that, a bad icing call. Again the Linesman have too many things to do as it is. Players are regretting they signed the approval for that rule.

Yeah, Simpson wouldn't get type of call up, especially if he isn't getting the 2nd spot in Rockford.

Those are not good numbers for an ECHL goalie. How the heck would he be good in the NHL if he had those numbers in the ECHL?

Have you see any of the other games? Because he's been excellent in them. Helping them to the best record in the AHL.

Raanta would be fine as the back up goalie IMO. Just as NIEMI would have been if someone hadn't bought HUET.

I would cry if Kent Simpson ever suited up in a Hawks uniform. Never was a fan of that draft pick. I would have preferred the Hawks signing Cal Heeter over Simpson after comparing both of them in prospect camps, but they let him go and he ended up signing in Philly... not that Heeter would have been ready for NHL action yet anyway.

I do like monitoring upcoming goaltenders that I have "tabbed" per say, even if they leave the Hawks organization. Heeter was never officially signed, but he was invited to a couple prospect camps. Today he's playing in the AHL for the Adirondack Phantoms, he's appeared in four games and has a really good chance of taking over the starting role if Yann Danis continues to struggle. So far, Heeter has put up a .919 save percentage, 2.75 GAA, and 2-2-0 record. He's also slightly taller than Simpson at 6-4.

For Kent Simpson, he's also played in four games, but his numbers are slightly worse: 2-2-0 record, 2.75 GAA, .915 SV%.

So far, its hard to tell who will be the better goaltender, but Simpson is 3 or 4 years younger so he has time on his side, but I still would have liked to see the Hawks give Heeter a chance.

Either way, the Hawks are stuck with Habby, I seriously doubt they bring up Raanta unless there's an injury or DUI arrest.
