I've never been a huge fan of Crawford. I think he's overrated and I agree with variable, the fact that he won a stanley cup is great, but it's not the most ideal reason to put someone into a top 10 category.

He's an average goalie at best and I'm fine with that. What I don't like is how if you say Crawford played a bad game everyone jumps on you for stating the obvious. His glove hand is bad, he let's in quite a few softies, and mentally he's hit or miss most nights. Has he stolen some games? Yes. But I wouldn't say he's great.

How can he be overrated when he gets shit on at every opportunity. Even after showing his detractors that he can get it done when it matters.

Haha, give me a break. Crawford was barely tried in this game. The Hawks as a team played a solid game defensively. Was a good game all around. Let's not get too cocky.

24 shots faced is now barely tried?

I guess Niemi was barely tried too, since we only had 3 more shots.

Typical. When CC does good, it's a team effort, when it doesn't it's all CC's fault.

also, I'll say this as a goalie (me and Ton would know) When you're winning, it's a team effort. When you're losing, it's the fault of the goalie.

I don't think he's an elite goaltender. I don't think he sucks, just don't see him being better than average.

Tonight's game the quality of shots against Craw was nothing like that Niemi saw.

"average at best"

means below average.

And Crow made a few really nice saves off deflections, and proved he was mentally strong after being able to bounce back from last night, and from that oddball goal.

I'd say give up while you're ahead...But I don't think you've ever been ahead in this thread.

and the shots Niemi faced (on that massive workload of 3 more shots Crow faced) all the good ones ended up in the back of the net.

and if you want to really criticize goalies, his positioning was shit.

I'm not saying he sucks. Don't get me wrong he's had some really great games, he's also had some really bad ones. I don't see him as top 10. It's still early in his career where if he does well I will end up eating shit and will love it. I'm the first person to admit when I'm wrong. For him, I hope he proves me wrong.

Stu actually is the first person to admit he's wrong (and I am eating shit saying that, because **** stu)

and yes, he has had some bad games, I challenge you to find me a goalie in the NHL who hasn't

And he will prove you wrong, I'm happy we have him. The team loves him, and one day the fan base will too.

and when did we (blackhawks fans) become such harsh critics of goaltenders anyway? Didn't we all love T-Bo? Khabi? Yet most people hate Crawford? It's like Bears fans, the favorite player on the team is the second string QB

Personally, I think when it's all said and done, Crawford will be remembered as the best Blackhawks goaltender in the franchises history.

Yeah, I said it. Shoot me.

Behind Belfour I might agree with that.

Trev I'm not sure what game you were watching but when the score was close, Crawford made 2-3 excellent saves. He was also breaking in new pads and gloves tonight, which might explain his only GA, since I'm not sure you noticed Trev.

As for the game, what a complete domination from the Hawks. With a team, having their 3rd in 4 nights, but was sitting here with a day off waiting.

Saad, great game

Kruger, great game

Toews, Kane, Sharp, very good games...

Bickell, using the body had 2-3 excellent hits...

Versteeg, he's going to be a great addition, more offensive than Frolik and all around better than Stalberg in every aspect, minus probably speed.

Nice way to leave things at the UC for the Circus Trip. Khabi will be gone at least 5-6 weeks so Raanta is going to get a couple of games. I'll be interested in seeing how he plays in the big show.

reread what I had said there

I know you corrected yourself from your prior post. I screwed up later in the thread re how many cups Hasek won. Karma.

As it is for me, but I'm talking about the general consensus, where talking points which are constantly parroted like "Cup winning goalie" are taken seriously like they mean a lot more than they actually do. Even with his Cup win that supposedly means so much, I hear Brodeur as being the best goalie of his era or generation a lot because of another equally ridiculous reason: goalie wins.

Tony Esposito never won the cup but is a Hall of Famer. So a Cup title not a prerquisite, but it doesn't hurt.

It's not a prerequisite, but it helps the fringe goalies (or even players) get in.

Would Doug Gilmour be in the HHOF without a cup? Probably not.

Would Doug Wilson be in the HHOF with a cup? Hell yes!!

Would Eric Lindros be in the HHOF with a cup? Hell yes!

and since I brought up the babysitter rapist, why isn't Steve Larmer in the Hall? Much better player than Dougie!
