His only Cup run? You know Hasek was the starting goalie when Detroit won it in 02' right?

That's okay. But here's a question. If Hasek, obviously past his prime at that point and in the twilight of his career, hadn't had joined a stacked Red Wings team that won that Cup, would people still regard him as high as they do? Beause he wouldn't have "won a Cup" on his resume? Seeing as how at least one very "hockey knowledgable" person here believes Tomas Holmstrom should be in the Hall of Fame, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people didn't.

His play on weak Sabres teams and taking them to the finals vs. the Stars is enough for me.

As it is for me, but I'm talking about the general consensus, where talking points which are constantly parroted like "Cup winning goalie" are taken seriously like they mean a lot more than they actually do. Even with his Cup win that supposedly means so much, I hear Brodeur as being the best goalie of his era or generation a lot because of another equally ridiculous reason: goalie wins.

One game where he comes in cold and Trev has a nervous breakdown. SMH and LMFAO. Of the goalies he listed to replace Crow, only one was a starter that won the Cup, Niemi. SMH, again. Kane said more than once, right after winning the Conn Smythe, and when he handed him the belt at the parade, that Crow was the best player throughout the playoffs. SMH, a third time.

I've never been a huge fan of Crawford. I think he's overrated and I agree with variable, the fact that he won a stanley cup is great, but it's not the most ideal reason to put someone into a top 10 category.

He's an average goalie at best and I'm fine with that. What I don't like is how if you say Crawford played a bad game everyone jumps on you for stating the obvious. His glove hand is bad, he let's in quite a few softies, and mentally he's hit or miss most nights. Has he stolen some games? Yes. But I wouldn't say he's great.

It really all depends on the team they played on. Hasek in my opinion is the best NHL goaltender ever. He played on teams that lacked offensive superstars and lacked decent talent overall, yet he kept Buffalo in every game and into the SC finals one year.

Brodeur while being talented, also benefited from great defensemen and a difficult to score on defensive system. He's a still a very elite goaltender, but not more than Hasek.

I don't see it with Crawford, but my opinion doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Osgood was 14-4 in the 2008 Cup, replacing Hasek in game 4 and never looking back. Hasek shit the bed in 08. :icon-smile:

from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Osgood

After Hasek performed poorly in Games 3 and 4 of their 2008 first round series with the Nashville Predators, Red Wings coach Mike Babcock decided to pull him in favor of Osgood midway through Game 4 and named him the starter for game 5 of the series. With Osgood in goal, the Red Wings won their next nine playoff games in a row, defeating the Predators and sweeping the Colorado Avalanche as well as dealing the Dallas Stars a three-game deficit. Though the Stars battled back, winning their next two games, Osgood shone in game 6, stopping all but one shot in a game riddled with Red Wings penalties, sending them to the Stanley Cup Finals to meet the Pittsburgh Penguins. In games one and two of the Stanley Cup finals, Osgood had back-to-back shutouts, making him the fourth goalie in NHL history to start the Finals with back-to-back shutouts. Between the two games, he made a total of 41 saves. His save as time expired in Game Six sealed the Stanley Cup win for the Red Wings and for Osgood, who won his second championship as a starting goaltender. His final 2008 playoff record was 14–4 with a 1.55 GAA; he was considered a contender for the Conn Smythe Trophy which eventually went to Henrik Zetterberg.

I just think it's cute that Trev says "Crawford isn't even top 20 in the league in Save percentage, he's not a good goalie"

two games ago, he was top 7 in save percentage, but you weren't saying anything then. It's early in the season

The problem I have, is that you seem to wait for a bad game so you can jump in and say "TOLD YOU! HE'S AWFUL!" But I don't remember you saying anything during the playoffs.

And to back up my "it's early in the season" here's a few of the goalies that made your list of being "way better than Crawford" with a crappier save percentage

Quick - .905

Anderson - .904

Backstrom - .874 (worst in the league)

plus, Crawford (at least in my opinion) is proven himself in the playoffs, some of your others?

Kari Lehtonen Career Playoff SV% - .849

Carey Price Career Playoffs SV% - .905

Antti Niemi Career Playoffs SV% - .909

Roberto Luongo Career Playoffs SV% - .916

Pekka Rinne Career Playoffs SV% - .916

Ryan Miller Career Playoffs SV% - .917

Henrik Lundqvist Career Playoffs SV% - .920

Corey Crawford Career Playoffs SV% - .924

so yeah, suck my balls :)

Aha hahahahaha, I say it all the time not just when he has one bad game.

We can wait till the end of the season, I'll hold off till then. Though as of late I haven't been wrong too much.

for such a "mentally weak goalie" he sure had one hell of a bounce back performance tonight.

Also, Niemi let in 5. I guess he's awful now too.

Haha, give me a break. Crawford was barely tried in this game. The Hawks as a team played a solid game defensively. Was a good game all around. Let's not get too cocky.
