Looking at the schedule the Hawks have a total of 6 games in 3 weeks starting mid-January. That is the time of the year we will finally see some of these other teams catch up in terms of games played. So while the Hawks are playing 2 games a week at that point the others will be playing 3-4 a week. Hopefully then we will be able to see an apples-to-apples comparison in the standings. Normal years the teams are all 1-3 games apart in the 'games played' category. But this year we've seen the Hawks have 5-6-and even 7 games extra played over some opponents.

The only thing that matters in games played, is how many points you have out of them. The Hawks are in trouble and in real danger of missing the playoffs, unless they go on a nice run. Let's not kid ourselves here. Likely not picking up two points on Friday either. Pisani might be back, but no Kane, Hossa, or Stalberg? Against Detroit? Yeah.

I heard the 1st of the year for Hossa last night. I hope it's wrong but afraid from where I heard it, it's correct.

Considering his pratice schedule, I wouldn't be surprised if Hossa is out till Jan and Kane was supposed to be out at least 3 weeks. Q can still play his word games till Kane is really ready to play. High ankle sprains are tough to come back early from.

Ding!

Just gotta get in.

They also fired their coach mid stream and ended up winning their division.

In the weak sister East.

Damnit, I said I'd stop being a pessimist.....where's pmxc with all his fancy stats to make me feel better?

And instead of firing their coach, this teams "trigger" may just be getting healthy and playing with a full roster for a stretch

Worked for Detroit last year, although they didn't have as many new faces.

Who's the scape goat this year if they don't make the playoffs. McD already got rid of everyone. These are all his guys now except for Q.

I'm not sure Q is playing word games here. Kane was/is close to returning. Kane has been through this exact same injury before, other leg. If he's skating he's close. While it may nag him, it could be like that all season. Of course groin and sprains often linger.
