Can we stop blaming everyone but the team for another loss? The last game it was because the ice was bad and people were tired. The loss last night is now blamed on poor officiating. The fact is the team is not playing well. Other than Campbell our D has not been very good all year. Hjarlmarrson had a rough October and started showing signs of brilliance again in November. Seabs and Keith - I'm still waiting for them to play like the 1-2 tandem that they are capable of. Colorado also looked pretty damn good last night and very fast. We had a lot of difficulty with puck possession in the 3rd period especially. Unfortunately the schedule doesn't get any easier with the games ahead of us. But we have to play better at home and we have a lot of home cooking this month to turn things around.

Read over the majority of this thread. Everyone for the most part is bitching about the hawks play. Sure there are some that aren't thrilled with the refs as of late and they have good reason to be upset with them but yeah pretty much everyone says our D sucks.

Exactly. Another "trolling" post for reaction.

Everyone has called out the Hawks play on D

Everyone has called out the other "circumstances" as well.

No one is NOT blaming the Hawks.

No matter what it is always his fault. If we win it is his fault that we didn't win by more. It is his fault that we didn't sweep every team in the playoffs.

It is his fault that there is a salary cap and it is his fault that it is cold in Florida.

Yeah the call on Hendry sucked in so many different ways but it still comes down to another home loss. Add to that another home 3rd period clusterfuck. The beloved are tied for last in home losses this year. More home losses this year than all of last season. Let that sink in. The penalty kill is at 28th in the league, ahead of Toronto and Edmonton.

Now if that is not enough suckage to gulp down, the remainder of the December schedule is no walk in the park as the Hawks continue with conference foes. Most of which have games in hand as they battle for playoff position.

Is there a stat anywhere that captures how many times this season the Hawks have given up a goal on the first shift immediately following a goal by either themselves or the opposition? I feel like we keep seeing that happen - we get a goal to tie the score or pull within one and then immediately give up another goal on the next shift. Signs of a young team I guess but wasn't sure if this was tracked anywhere.

I think for 2 periods...the Hawks completely outplayed them...yet did not have/show the results of their efforts. Thats happened quite a few times this year. Then come the third, they get jobbed on a bad call - 2 goals...and now, the sticks get squeezed in the old "here we go again" fashion.

I still cant figure out whats going on with Keith and Seabrook. I dont know about splitting them up, because the other 4 have been pretty solid.

The ref's....ugh. Winnick ran into Hendry's glove, elbow, butt end....whatever they want to say. It wasnt careless on his end at all. Unreal. And....to give him 4 for that?? When O'Byrnes was only a 2? Or Bickell's "hook" off a faceoff?

What hurts the Hawks on the PK, is two of their better PKer's - Hossa and Pisani - are both out. Again....with the cap and not the luxury of the depth this year, having those guys out and/or the players they rely on struggle....is more significant.

I wonder if a trade may be something to shake things up. With the cap, makes it harder. I've always been a Campbell fan...but I dont think his stock will be higher (after the cup, his +10, his value really shows when he was out)...may be attractive to a team. With Leddy, Lalonde on their way in the near future...one of the 4 Dmen will have to go. Bolland (44% in FO) is the other one I've seen just about enough of. At this point, I'd rather have Potulny (47.4% last year in FO) on the third line at a fraction of the cost, and may provide some offense. If a better defensive Center is needed...maybe the newly signed Ryan Johnson can fit the bill. He's good on the PK and FO. Unfortunately, not sure how they'd be able to move the 10.5mil of those 2 in any deal.....

I dont know about owning the 2nd period. I gave the Avs the slight advantage, I was not impressed with the 2nd period. 1st we did good and the 3rd...ugh

I think they outshot them like 28-12 in the first 2 periods. COL had a few rushes they countered on, but I didnt think they had any sustained pressure.

That was happening quite a bit in 2007-08.

Or at least it seemed like it. I believed I started to call it the "Robert Lang Syndrome."

It just seemed like every time there was a situation that the opposition scored on the next shift, Lang was on the ice.

Actually, I though we played well the first 5-7 minutes of the game and sucked the rest of the way...

Cullimore our best blueliner the last week?

I think he has been

Are the Hawks blue liners Special person when opposition has the puck is in the slot? Sure have looked like it lately. At least Keith has.

Yes, and therein lies the problem doesn't it?

I just knew things wern't going to go their way after they dominated the 1st yet were heading to the room losing.

The PK and PP lost this game, they didn't produce while the Avs special teams did. End of story.

And **** the injuries when the Avs are icing such dynamos as: Winnik, Yip, Mauldin, O'Reily, Porter, etc. Who the **** are those guys!?

EDIT: 49 games to collect at least 60 points.

60 points for what position?

60 points for what position?

Maybe 9th? I'm arbitrarily basing it off of needing at least 95 points to get a ticket to the dance. It'll probably be more, maybe it'll be less but this is where I've planted my flag.

All true. The penalty kill looked like a fire drill.

Hawks games are not even slightly enjoyable right now.

The real test is divisional play.

The other odd fact is that the Hawks have a few Eastern conference games late in the season. That could come into play as losses would not benefit positioning by rivals in the west (of course a win is 2 points-- but it means that losing will not benefit another East team).

The game was enjoyable for me up until the point they made up the penalty against us.

I'm pretty sure the year the Pens won the Cup they were 20-21-8 and still made the playoffs.
