While I am usually upbeat, the loss last night left a really salty taste in my mouth. Mostly since they had a 3 goal lead and could not keep it, but moreso is the why.
I think that Turco played well and played to win the game. The first goal he gave up was just "one" of those goals. He has the post and the puck got through like a mouse through a dime size hole in your wall. So not going to throw any blame his way in the least.
What got me was that when the Stars came out in the second being very physical, the 'Hawks response was to slow down. Not that I was looking for them to throw crushing hits as that only throws the 'Hawks game off, but I was expecting they would be a tad more physical but moreso keep the pace of the game quicker. That is what has usually gotten them over the hump....and scoring usually shuts down the massive physical play anyway.
The other thing was the no goal for Seabs. Replay's were pretty conclusive as you only need to the the front shot where the puck is in the back of the glove, and then the overhead to see the back of the golve completely across the line. The killer was that it was called a no goal on the ice.
However, the 'Hawks were keeping the Stars at bay though most of the 2nd period onslaught until the bench began to shorten. Losing an entire line for the 3rd is hard for any team. I do think that if they got away with only one goal from the Stars in the 2nd, they would have still won this game with they way they were playing.
In any case, still plenty of season left. The West is amazingly tight and it is more than possible that the 6-8 spots will be in the 80 point range. The 'Hawks are still in the thick of it, and if Stan can get the D-man he is looking for (basically a Sopel, but hopefully one that can skate faster), that will help the PK and not kill guys like Seabs, Keith, and Hammer. Also, I do like that the play for the last couple of weeks has been there to win games, the bounces are really going in the wrong direction. But still plenty of time in this season.
