At this point I'm just sick of the hawks. I'm too the point I don't even want to watch the games. The on ice product sucks. I can't pinpoint the problem but something needs fixing.

I watched this team through good and bad. I won't abondon them because of a post Stanley Cup slump. Sure it's frustrating watching them lose this year after their 2009/10 season, but it won't stop me from bleeding Blackhawk colors or wearing the Indianhead sweater with pride every opportunity I get.

This slump really makes me wonder about the Winter Olympics last year and how it screwed with the schedule, although the Flyers don't seem any worse for it.

Well they won the Stanley Cup last year. I will be content for at least the next few years. While the poor play is frustrating, losing half the team most certainly did not help.

Long way to go yet.

They also didn't retool half their team either, while completely band aiding almost their entire 3rd and 4th lines.

I'm with Wino here. There's no way I quit watching this team....NEVER. I'm still PROUDLY flying my Blackhawk flag off the front porch of my house.

Is it frustrating this year? Abso-freakin-lutely. Have I been screaming at my teevee a lot? Without a doubt. Give up on watching and supporting this team? NEVER...

RK said it best it is frustration. We went from watching fantastic hockey night in and night out, a solid effort almost every night. Even games we lost we sometimes out played the other team.

This season, I don't get it, we look like we are going through the motions, there's no teeth to this tiger. If we were losing while playing 60, fine I can live with that, if I can finish the game and think to myself, we played well but just didn't get it done, okay, but this, this I sit here and think someone in the organization needs to pull their head out of their ass. Whether it is Q, or a player(s), or is it McDick or Rocky to jump up and down Q's ass, I don't know and frankly I don't fucking care. Just fix it.

All I want is the fucking effort.

The hawks last night looking like shit in the 1st and 3rd. The defense in the 2nd was fucking stellar. Keith, Seabs, and Hammer played out of their fucking minds that period.

It just pisses me off that on paper this is a cup contending team in reality, we are grasping for a playoff spot. Sure we've lost a lot of pieces but hell the core alone should be dragging the rest of the team kicking and screaming into the playoffs. Yes I know we are only 3 pts from 8th but I just expect a bit more of this roster.

I think they are better than what they are playing Supra. But THEY have to realize that. The games they are losing this year were ones they had the extra push/desire/passion to win last year. Also remember they had A LOT of different players last year. Players that this years replacements could never live up to if they tried. Not so much in passion, but in skill and ability to play their role.

Guys like Ladd, Buff, Madden..... All brought tangibles this years "replacements" just don't have.

They will either over come, or have a decent summer to swell on what could have been. Like I said and biscuit said there is LONG WAY to go still. Far from out of it. That said it's time for the LEADERS and VETS on this team to FIGURE it out!

Also remember the two teams they just players are two of the HOTTEST teams in the league. It's not like they got beaten by a bottom feeder in either. And the game in Vancouver SHOULD HAVE BEEN a W if not for the HORRIBLE officiating.

Tomorrow night will say a lot. Lets see if they make a statement or roll over.

Is it just me or did it seem like only Hammer, and Seabs to a lesser extent, were the only two really trying to leave it all on the ice?

They were the only two that really impressed me.

I thought Hjarlmarsson, Seabrook, Toews and Kane were the four guys that looked like they left it on the ice.

Crawford had a very good game as well.

Fair enough--I can't malign anyone you listed RK; to me it just seemed like Hammer was a man possessed last night.

I was reading through several different blogs last night and the key thing from several was "the Hawks were a fluke last year".

I have to completely disagree with that. The Hawks lost due to the Salary Cap---

Buff

Versteeg

Ladd

Madden

Fraser

Burrish

Eager

Sopel

Niemi

Huet

That's just shy half the SC winning Roster.

Those guys were, for this year only again due to Cap Space, replaced by--

Dowell

Bickell

Skille

Leddy

Pisani

Stahlberg

Cullimore

Crawford

Turco

Scott

The former list has grinders, physical guys, defensive minded players.

Had this team been able to keep everyone, they would have/could have most certainly won the Cup again. It's not to say they can't but anyone looking at those lists need to look any further to answer what the difference is.

It's not the same team.

Now add

Hossa started on fire was injured. Another Cup player not 100%.

Kane was injured with an injury that will effect him the rest of the year on off. Another Cup player not 100%.

Campbell missed the first month, a very busy month compared to other NHL teams. Another Cup player not 100%.

And Toews was in and out for a few games. Another Cup player not 100%.

Add those four and this team has at times been less than HALF the team of last year roster wise. Is it a surprise they are up and down and now losing the close games they won last year? Not to me.

The Salary Cap is there to prevent teams from spending to win the Cup. In a sense it will prevent teams from repeating as well UNLESS they are so young, the following year contracts for their stars are not due.

They did what they set out to. Won the Cup. This year was definitely a transition year. No way around it with 7 or your players accounting for nearly 60% of the current Salary Cap.

I just can't get mad at them other than I think there is more from them to give. The lack of desire frustrates me, but then I look up after 15 years of ST's, 33 years as a fan, some very bad years, and see the Banner that now hangs in the rafters. 49 years with only ONE previous Cup appearance that I can really remember in my life time.

Fluke, not a fucking chance. Set to fail this year, sure. They knew there would be consequences to deal with this year. But they did what they set out to do.

Although this year is by no means over next year is already looking to position the Hawks in a better place financially.

If they could have even kept a half or a third of the players form last year, they would be contending for the top spot this year.

Anyone calling last year a fluke is not a hockey fan or has any kind of hockey intelligence.

If the team makes it into the playoffs to go to the finals this season-- THAT is a fluke.

And don't get me wrong. This team can make the playoffs, and can make some noise in those playoffs. The Season is FAR FROM OVER! There is A LOT of hockey to play.

The last two games have been against two of the HOTTEST NHL teams in the league. Other than Philly it could be said they are the two BEST teams right now. And again the first of these two games the Hawks SHOULD HAVE WON.

I was just more spelling out exactly what this team lost before this season started. I too was caught up thinking it would not make as large of an impact as it appears to have. It made a HUGE difference as we are seeing.

Well, RK, consider the source. If you follow the blogger logic than the year before one could say that the Pens were a fluke.

I think this year is a transition year--Some players that need to step up aren't quite ready yet, or we have stopgap players to allow our better prospects to develop more.

Worst case scenario (and this is pure speculation on my part), is that if there is a bigger cup hangover than any of us realized, come this summer I think the cure will be missing the playoffs/early exit and the respectable hockey journalists saying that the team was a fluke.

But as yet, I'm not writing this year off.

Yea I just don't buy the Cup hangover either. I tend to lean more towards the peices they lost played a much bigger role than I gave them credit for.

Toews too but that's just another average game for Toews. Guy plays his ass off on most nights.

Buff, Ladd, Sopel. All we fucking need back to rock the house. Ladd never did put up stellar numbers but jesus he was a smart guy. Sopel for years I bitched about him and when he became a PK god, I STFU real fast. Buff, Buff...man Size, speed, skill, MONSTER shot, hands, playoff hero. Yeah Buff....

Madden, meh went invisible towards the end of the year in my eyes. 4th line yeah we had the best 4th line in hockey but we still would have won with out them.l

a fluke? Dante said it best last year's hawks were a "team of destiny" that team was cup bound from day 1. They were stacked to the max and hungry as ****. I woulda put that squad against ANY all-star team and i think the hawks would have kicked their ass. I said I think earlier in this thread, that even last year the hawks would win but when the hit too they demolished other teams. The sheer dominance of that team was so easily recognizable that even someone that didnt know crap about hockey would have seen it. So yeah a fluke my fucking ass, whoever said that knows as much about hockey as Eklund.

I've been kind of disappointed in Hossa. He's a guy I think could/should be lighting the lamp more. For how he started out...if he would've played 82 this year, his pace would only be 26 goals and only 4g in his last 22gms.

I'm a huge fan of the guy, and realize all he does that doesnt show up on the scoresheet. However, he doesnt have NMC. I wonder if Boston...seeing their window open...and Savard out...would be interested in him? I realize Savard = Center, but they have Krejci, Bergeron and Seguin in the middle.

Maybe a move of Hossa to Boston for Wheeler and Kampfer (or Stuart). It would give the Hawks some flexability/cap space as well to maybe make another move (for a center)

Again...I'm a huge Hossa fan and what he brings to the table. I think he has alot to do with Kane's game getting better, amongst others. But in 3-4 years, it will be harder to move him. He did his job hear, won the cup, brought players games to another level...I just wonder if Boston (Pitt?) may be willing to sell their soul to add him for a run.
