and yes! the allstar game blows
but it doesn't have to, and that's the rub. It in its current incarnation is insane. Really? You're going to let fans vote for a game that has World Series implications? It's ridiculous.
i like the current allstar game format
let fans vote who they want to see
fans need to vote.
they are good at it
they are right in not choosing konerko and aj for the all star game...they are not all stars
I think Konerko and LaHair should both get in the ASG this year, but neither as starters. LaHair leads all MLB 1b in Home Runs, and Konerko leads all MLB 1b in BA.
Who should start over Konerko in the AL? LaHair ought to be on the bench, but I could see him being "snubbed" when Dempster or Castro is the Cubs lone representative.
I don't know that anyone "should", but you could easily make an argument for Fielder, imo.
I don't see how when Konerko has been statistically in just about everyway.
B/c Prince plays 1b more.
Now again, I'm not claiming one should start over the other, just playing devil's advocate.
Konerko has played in 51 games this season, only 35 req'd him to play in the field.
Prince has started all 56 games @ 1b.
I looked up fielding %s, figuring those #s would be in Konerko's favor, and they would be IF HE QUALIFIED...but he doesn't have enough starts @ 1b to qualify for it.
Prince and Paulie have the same # of hits and runs. Konerko has 1 more double and 2 more Homers, but Prince has 4 more RBI. BB and Ks are nearly even. Paulie's got a better Avg, but Prince is no slouch at .317.
So no, Paulie isn't statistically better in just about every way.
Konerko has a higher average, OBP, SLG, OPS, OPS+ and more HRs. He is a better fielder than Fielder. So basically Prince has 4 more RBI and has played in five more games at 1B. So okay I will rephrase it, and say Konerko numbers are better in all but two categories that really aren't that meaningful in evaluating a player's ability.
