If omelet captured you and tied you up in his basement, just say the safe word...(safe word is Layla in case you don't know it).

I respect the Beatles...particularly their impact on music in America...but I can't stand most of their music. Personal preference I suppose.

While I like the Beatles. I rarely load up any Beatles by choice in my playlists. My favorites are And I Love Her , Eleanor Rigby, A Day in the Life.

While I agree that their influence is virtually impossible to overstate, I think their musical contribution is generally not nearly at the level that their legend/myth would suggest. They really didn't do anything musically that was either particularly innovative or revolutionary. That being said, I like much of their output, I just don't understand why so many people shit their pants as though they were doing all these things that had never been attempted before.

Bubblegum..

Most over-rated band in history.
Fukin idiot.

The Beatles music spanned and created many genres. Many critics beleive they created Heavy Metal with Helter Skelter. They created the first concept album. They are generally responsible to the proliferation of album sales rather than 45s because they created so many hits. They pushed rock music to a higher level as bands then had to create an entire album of good songs not be one hit wonders. Other groups knew they had to produce 6-9 good songs. They were one of the first to host massive outdoor concerts. They were the first band to start songs on the chorus instead of an introduction. They produced Paul Mccartney which is the closest thing rock has to Mozart. They were one of the first to use recording techniques not commonly used or just being introduced. Thier music scanned generation of listeners unlike every other band in the world. If you listen to virtually every well known rock musician they attribute their inspiration to the Beatles. Jimi Hendirx was performing the entire Sgt Peppers album live 3 days after it was released. Famous musicians in LA rented hotel rooms and listened to Sgt Peppers non-stop for 2 days. Elvis asked for an introduction to the Beatles. Frank Sinatra called Something the greatest love song ever written.Paul McCartney invented the melodic style of bass playing and changed they way the instrument was played in rock. No band has had their music covered by other musicians more than the Beatles, in fact one of their songs has been studios recorded 2000 times. 50 years later they are still more popular than any current group. 200 years from now they will be the only group from this era remembered

The junkies and crackheads here can probably relate to this band. Close to your ages and they showing the Beatles respect covering the Beatles Elinor Rigby.

Agree with all of this except the statement about McCartney.

He was shit without Harrison and more importantly, Lennon tempering his ultra cheese. Really the whole band was a synergy and greater than the sum of its parts.

Harrison???? Not buying it. Harrison is a great guitarist, not so much for his proficiency rather for some of his innovative riffs and efficient solos. But technically, McCartney was a better lead guitarist. Harrison was very subservient to McCartney and resented him for many year afterwards for the influence and control Paul had over him. In fact, Harrison temporarily quit the band in 1969 because McCartney was telling him how to play the gutair. There is a famous quote and you can find the actual video on Youtube where Harrison says to McCartney "I'll play it this way, I'll play it that way, just tell me how you want me to play it". That afternoon George went home and wrote Wah Wah about Paul, then rejoined the band 2 days later. Only near his death did Harrison ever fully forgive Paul and start talking to him again

By the way here are some of the lyrics from Wah Wah where George talks about Paul and says he would be nothing without Paul

You made me such a big star
Being there at the right time
Cheaper than a dime

Oh, you don't see me crying
Oh, you don't hear me sighing

Here are some of the greatest musicians in the world doing Wah Wah at the Concert for George benefit. Notice the 3 drummers all in sync (Ringo, Jim Keltner and Henry Spinetti and crazy Ray Cooper on the congas))

And for the guy that called this bubblegum music I say again: Fukin idiot
