I've seen 1 and 2 but kept getting distracted and sidetracked which is one of the many joys of having a kid. Wound up having to watch them in shifts and definitely didn't get the full effect. No doubt I will be going back to watch them again when I can really get the full experience.

To be fair...the first movie has its flaws. The screenwriter was also the author of the books and the script suffers from being written too much like a novel. The director was a novice for a production this grand, but does a far better job than most could have done at the time.

The stellar cast really makes that movie, but the pacing is slow. All that was cleaned up in Part 2...the best of the three movies.

Exactly. Keep it moving.

Now prepare to be torn apart by Ommy and his bitterness.

That's one of the other reasons the third installment is relative garbage compared to the other two: the cast took a big hit. Andy Garcia in a primary role? Pretty much useless. Coppola's daughter? Couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag with a cat in it to guide her.

It was pretty much left up to Al and Diane Keaton to carry the entire cast of mediocre to shitty actors...which was pretty much untenable even for them.

Lol copollas daughter was hot imo but yeah she fucking sucked at acting. Tom got a new character too. So lame. Movie itself wasn't horrible but if you compare em to the first 2 then yeah it was bad.

Part II is better than I IMO.
The writing is extremely tight and the execution of direction (along with the acting) is phenomenal.
Part III is overblown and overlong for what they tried to fit in a film. It's a good film, but suffers due to its association to the two former films.
The casting in the third film is laughable and unfortunate. It shows promise in the first 40 minutes, then grinds to an abysmal halt.

Coppola daughter was not suppose to play Mary. Winona Ryder was originally casted. Also, like I said above, the movie was suppose to completely different but they had to re write a good portion when Duvall would not partake over money.

I can read your posts.
I've read many different accounts over the years and have seen many behind the scenes on these films.
When Coppola decides to kill a dude with a pair of eyeglasses is when I check out (or earlier). The interview with him over that subject was embarrassing. The dude had a nice run, then shit himself in the 80s and 90s.

I dont know. The docs and what I read said Winona was 1 then they sent him another girl and Coppola decided on his daughter against most peoples wishes. Also, the whole her fucking her first cousin was what turned me off to the movie. People acted like it was no big deal. Im like wtf.

LOL dude directed GF 1, GF 2, and Apocalypse Now. No matter what happens after that, even if he wants to remake Puff the Magic Dragon, he will always be considered one of the greatest. As for the 80s/90s, he directed The Outsiders, GF 3, Dracula (the best version ever), and Rainmaker (which is highly underrated).

I have probably seen the Godfather 50 times in my life. I believe it's the greatest movie ever made. The more you watch it you see things you never saw before and you understand the relationship of all the characters.

There is actually a vesion that splices GF 1 and 2 together in sequence.

GF 3 was just a money grab and you can find video snippets of the cast members admitting that

My dad has that on tape, but can't find it anywhere on DVD. Or couldn't before. Not sure about now.

Not sure if it ever got a formatted release. That version was a made for television mini-series. It tones down some of the more graphic scenes, but adds in a few small extras. Your dad might have taped it right off of NBC.

Laugh all you want. He had some great films and fizzled out. Apocalypse Now Redux is a great film, and proves my point that he was a monster in the 70s.
Sometimes it happens (directors pooping the bed). Dracula didn't do anything for me. Godfather 3 was a cash grab. I'll have to watch Rainmaker. That's one of the films that escaped me.
