To close it would be more like 10 runs for Grienke with two shutouts for Jake.

How do you figure? Zack has 38 ER's and 0 shut outs. Jake has 45 with 3. That is 7 ER difference. Then 220 SO to 185. That is 35 more. 2 more wins.

You are wrong on this one Brett. All Zack has going for him is playing on the Dodgers and the bigger NL west parks. Jake has been doing this in the toughest division in baseball this year.

Greinke and Arrieta are likely to finish within 2/10 of a run of each other in ERA with nearly statistically identical WHIP numbers. Jake has a significant lead in K's and his second half is the stuff of legends. I think Greinke is going to get it because he's gotten the pub all year long and Arrieta is just now crossing the radar of guys who don't follow the Cubs. Still, an argument can be made for either guy and Kershaw will get some votes (also deserving btw) as well. Again, I think Greinke is going to get it but it wouldn't shock me if it went to Jake because voters could split on Greinke and Kershaw.

I agree voters could split, but the second choice s probably the other which is why I have Jake third. He needs to basically be perfect her on out and a flop from both Dodger pitchers to take it.

Parade and I are in complete agreement that Jake is the MVP. The Cubs are outstanding where the Nats are missing the playoffs. Jake gets the nod over Bryce even though what Bryce has done is Ruthian.

I agree with that completely but there is no way the voters are that nuanced. It's going to Harper.

By the way I heard a very intelligent fix for the whole "should pitchers win MVP" dilemma this week. The Hank Aaron Award, for leagues best hitter, should be promoted more, moved from a WS presentation to put it in line with the other awards and would prevent the MVP from being strictly for the best hitter. Then the MVP could legitimately go to the winner of that award, the Cy Young winner or another player who won neither but was clearly the most valuable. I really liked the idea.

All about the market. Chicago has the 3rd market but as far as a media market it is a small market.

I think the point being missed here is Jake just passed the 20 win threshold on a Cubs team that has become relevant. Not to mention in a way that has not been seen sense Bob Gibson caused the mound to be lowered.

Hank Aaron Award? Why would the leagues best hitter award be named after Hank? Surely that award should be named after Ted Williams.

Agreed. I's part of a reason why he should win MVP (he won't). His case for Cy isn't as strong as MVP IMO.

I'm talking about a season long award.

Edit: Yes. To put it on par with the other awards, I would rename it. That's my personal opinion. Either way currently that award is not on the level with ROY, CY or MVP. Make it so.

Yeah, I understand. I went looking at the stats of the two. Ted got MVP consideration every year of his career minus the injury year. That's AMAZING!

Greatest hitter of all time. Looking at his stats, you will notice that he missed almost 5 years of production to serving as a pilot for the US in WWII and Korea.

It's not and I'm fine with making it on the same level and renaming for ol' Ted. It really is a simple solution which is why baseball likely won't do it.

LOL, TC. It would be simple. I can't believe they have some little dick award for the All Star game named for Williams. Either way it is a solid idea to have a best hitter award be on par with the other awards. I didn't used to believe a pitcher could be an MVP, but having witnessed what Jake has done this year for the team, I was wrong previously.

MVP has been won by pitchers in the past. But I have a hard time digesting a non Cy young winning MVP.

The award should be better defined. Like leading your team to the play offs vs a award based off of numbers. Cy young and a top hitting award should be for that.
