As Arrieta pitches yet another gem.

Good Lord! Save some for the post season.....will ya?

.17 separates the two. After last nights dominance on National TV if Greinke is less than superhuman tonight I think it could go to Jake in the closest vote in history. There is no question that in my almost 50 years as a fan that this is the single best season I've ever seen from a pitcher. Hell for a single season he's the best pitcher I've ever seen.

I think the Cy Young winner gets decided today. If Zach doesn't get shelled (~4 runs) he wins the award. Two incredible stat lines for the two pitchers. Jake with his second half ERA and Zach with never having an era over 2.00. What amazing pitching.

Even 2 runs might hurt Greinke in the vote though after last night's dominance on national television from Arrieta. I think you're right though it's pretty much decided tonight.

After notching his 20th win of the season, many are pegging the Cubs’ Jake Arrieta as the favorite for the National League Cy Young award. We think he’ll win, but we also think he shouldn’t. Clayton Kershaw has been the best pitcher in the National League, in some ways even better than he’s ever been.
...

This is a well written piece. The author of that article is an acquaintance from a different site, who is an exceptionally sharp baseball mind, particularly in the stat realm.

Nationally I have not heard a single vote for Jake. Though if you watched last night, you would think Jake was the best thing since sliced bread based on how the announcers and production gushed over Jake (and to a vast degree, rightly so).

Nationally, it's still Zach.

You must have money riding on the vote to be so emotionally invested in this process.

I always said that it the Cubs were overdue for an ACE, and that every team seems to have one come up through the system and eventually, that the Cubs would too.

Who knew that you could get one for 3 months worth of Scott Feldman?

You must not be paying attention. There are tons of articles out there nationally highlighting the debate. Google them, they are out there. The fact that the race is so razor thin makes it a little bit of a what have you done for me lately thing. Here's a link to an SI piece earlier this week:

http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/09/24/awards-watch-mvp-cy-young-roy-mike-trout-jake-arrieta-zack-greinke

This is very much an open question. Again I think if the ERA gets tighter Arrieta wins it. His dominance lately is going to make a difference. To say this is not a debate nationally is just not correct. I've read in a dozen places just this morning that this will be the tightest vote in history. Trust me it will be.

In the last 6 Sundays, Jake is 6-0 with a .018 ERA.

Aren't Sundays suppose to be a day of rest? :bowrofl:

Nothing at all emotional about my post. You read into something that isn't there.

I have no interest financially.

Not to be a stickler, but I said no one is talking about Jake as the leader. Not sports radio, not TV.

Articles? Haven;t been reading any on the Cy Young Race.

You specifically stated you "have not heard of a single vote for Jake". If it's going to be the closest CY vote in history then you have heard of more than a "single vote for Jake". ;)

So far the National talk is almost all Zach with a smattering of Clayton. ;)

While I obviously hope Arrieta gets the award (and IMO rightfully deserves it), I have to agree with Brett in saying Greinke is still the favorite. The margin is so small though, that 1 start can change everything this last week of the season. Arrieta may have 1 more outing, Greinke possibly 2.

Let's hope Greinke fails to have a QS tonight, or even just getting the loss could help swing the pendulum towards Arrieta

The one who deserves it is Kershaw. He's been the best pitcher this year as Parade's article argues correctly. But unfortunately the national perspective is in Zach's court going into tonight's game.

As good as Kershaw has been, I don't see him finishing anywhere other than 3rd in the voting.

I summarized it earlier. If the voters are looking deep It's all Clayton. If they are only digging a tad, it's Zach. If they are looking at recent, It's Jake.

Based on King Felix one would think Clayton, but I really have no idea how knowledgeable the voters are going to take this. I am sure votes are coming in now with a week left in the season. That is a detriment to the voting process and ultimately hurts Jake by early voting.
