MVP has been won by pitchers in the past. But I have a hard time digesting a non Cy young winning MVP.

The award should be better defined. Like leading your team to the play offs vs a award based off of numbers. Cy young and a top hitting award should be for that.
It should be better defined.
The way it should go is Cy and Hank (Ted) should go to the best pitcher and best hitter respectively. Then the MVP should go to the most valuable baseball player.

I'd even be game for the best fielder award names after Brooks Robinson or Ozzie Smith.

5. Almost 5.

He missed 43-45 completely for for WWII and most of 52-53 for Korea.

I thought he was hurt in 52. Thanks for correcting me. Man, Ted could have passed Ruth potentially. WOW!

Can we award Arrieta the Cy Young now? The guy is un-hittable. Pittsburgh better be really scared because we are going to run a train on them in a 1 game playoff.

If he was getting normal rest, but Chicago Media this morning was reporting that Jake has two starts left.

Arrieta has me not even thinking of home field for the wild card game. As cool as it would be to see that Wrigley playoff atmosphere again asap, what's much more important is that Arrieta is theeee guy pitching that game.

Just saw that. You know they will baby him into the play offs. They pretty much have it in the bag in the west

Interesting they're resting him against the highest scoring team in the National league...

They already shifted him to not face the Rockies in Colorado

Btw, his worst 2 outings of the year came in Colorado.

Anything to preserve that ERA....

They may go in the "what have you done for me lately" category. Jake has the hot name right now. Really hot.

This may be decided by what happens in the playoffs. If Jake finishes off the year the right way, (especially beating the Pirates Sunday), and happens to knock them off in the playoffs, I don't see how he could lose unless Greinke takes the Dodgers really deep into the playoffs. Like the WS.

Not taking anything away from Greinke (or Kershaw for that matter), but balls don't generally carry too well in Dodger Stadium at night. I also know that over and under numbers are usually a full point below what Wrigley is in Vegas. That does not even include when the wind is blowing out.

That said. This is going to be an amazing race.

Good lord. Take Arrieta off this team and think where we would be.

The FO is going to really thrust the pedal and get the desired pitching in here in the off-season IMO, and I am sure that Rickett's isn't going to mind a bit at what they do. They all know how close the Cubs are to being a dominant team, and quite possibly, the best in baseball.

Voted on before playoffs start though

3-0 Backs against Kershaw in the 4th. This start may knock him out the races even with the metrics behind him.

Funny how one game can matter so much to an otherwise otherworldy statline for any of these three

I'd love to see it happen. I still think it's going to Greinke unless the ERA is almost equal, 1/10 of a run or less. Fingers crossed, he deserves it.
