Shooting 50% from the field against Payton on 22 shots doesn't really seem like "tanking" the game...unless he got Pippen to buy into the theory and cover his ass by Pip shooting 5-20.
As I said, you don't have to buy into the theory. It's just something I have even if the evidence would appear to go against it.

The evidence of Game 5 would seem to point that Jordan didn't tank, but the rest of the team did and the box score shows everyone pretty much else sucking. 3/26 from 3 point line. Jordan's Game 6 is nothing to write home about either scoring wise. He had 9 rebounds and 7 assists though.

You know, I'm starting to see things from Krause's point of view. Just imagine that you trade for some kid from some school in Arkansas, you fire Doug Collins after he takes you to the ECF to hire Jackson, you decide to acquire Rodman, you go to Europe and find Kukoc. You do this and win 6 championships. Why would you not think you could win and do it without Jordan and Phil Jackson? You have been on fire for 8 years...so you think your streak will continue.

A lot of that success did come from having the one player he didn't draft. The player that made it easier to build around.

Anyone else agree that they are showing Pippen in more of a negative way in this doc?

I mean, isn't that who he was though? I always felt that way while he was playing.

For a long time I figured Jordan wanted the story book ending in his mind.. thus I felt he more so tanked Games 4 and 5 than what Gary Payton did, so he could win Game 6 on Fathers Day and have that moment.

I always felt that way too, wanting to win at home on Father's Day was so storybook. Then again, I was 12. I'm not so sure MJ could bring himself to tank any game, let alone in the Finals.

I really dont know what triggered this, Kobe's death and the desire to make sure the world got to see it from Michaels side.
What I personally remember was the bulls losing the playoffs upon Mikes return, but then him leaving to go make movies. I like how those pickup games were shown, trying to see all those players that were actually there making up 5 on 5's, and instead of it burning Michael out, it fueled him to lead the best team in history. It is more enjoyable learning some of the things I really never even thought was happening.

That being said, this morning on ESPN's ticker, what do I see, that "Our of respect" the Mamba has been retired from the Mamba Sports Academy, and it will just be called The Sports Academy.

Sad, usually places get named after someone dies out of respect. Maybe Mike saw how quickly they are forgotten.

Yet another one of your baffling posts....what in the world does any of this have to do with what I wrote? I mean Kobe's death? This thing was put together in 2018 and 19....pretty sure Kobe was still alive at that point. Wow......LOL.

This documentary doesn’t change anything. It is just fun to relive some real good Chicago sports memories

I had come across a youtube video about Pippen sitting out the end of that game about a month ago and it was like 400% conspiracy theory "let's shit on Pippen!" material. I'd forgotten about it. it's funny how in the first couple episodes they made it a point to say Pippen was vastly underpaid and underrated to going to this "let's shit on Pippen!" thing now.

you know how it could become an issue to still talk about 25+ years later? if he kept doing it. it was an isolated thing, let it go.

my main takeaway was David Stern laying to rest that Jordan was suspended out of the league for 18 months. he elevated not just the Chicago Bulls, but the entire league, really why would the commissioner do that?

Because Americans love conspiracy theories.

Since its baffling to you, it sure seemed like you looked at this and knew it all (as usual) so are directing this towards teaching kids today what you must have already known.

As far as the Kobe point, this has been in the can for 22 years. Even though episodes 9 and 10 were still getting edited last week, you seem to believe it was already done. As far as the Kobe reference, it was me asking your greatness if this is finally released after two decades so people get to know Michael before he dies.

I guess I need to put you back on ignore so I stop quoting your posts.

Jordan (laughing): "I had no problems handling the glove. I just had other things on my mind that day".

I actually thought that part was a little disingenuous on Jordan's part. Payton was a damn good, tenacious defender and from what I recall, played Jordan reasonably well -- he didn't shut down Jordan (nobody could) of course, but he was admirable against him.

I know when the doc first came out, Jordan was worried about looking like a prick. I love Jordan, but he did kind of look like a prick there.

Don't get me wrong: nobody is in Jordan's league, but for him to act like guys like Payton and Clyde Drexler flat-out sucked is again disingenuous because they didn't.

I saw a headline on yahoo a day or two ago stating that Pippen was supposedly unhappy with his portrayal.

I think for MJ it's not about Payton and Drexler sucking, it's that he is much better than them. Not quite the same thing

Please, PLEASE do put me on ignore. It's just too tempting to respond to your weirdness. If it's not directed at me, I just laugh at you as most of the other posters do and move on to an intelligent post.

with Payton, I think it has to do with Jordan saying, that little guy can’t guard me. Payton was 6’4 and 180 pounds...and that height seems generous to me. Jordan was 6’6 and around 220.

Eh -- that laugh, to me, indicated that he thought Payton flat-out sucked. I mean he was literally cracking up at the mere suggestion that Payton "gave him problems" guarding him. Guess people can interpret it differently, but that's how I see it.

Not sure if it still exists, but those two had some bad blood back then. Maybe some still exists and that's why Jordan reacted the way he did in the doc.

I mean, it would be hard for even someone as cocky as MJ to say that the best player on the team he faced in the Finals flat out sucked like you would say someone like Stacey King flat out sucked. Payton won DPOY that year. Just seems a bit over the top if interpreted to that degree imo

I had pretty much the same thought. At the same I also thought it was disingenuous for Payton to say they might have won the championship that season if Karl had him guard Jordan from the beginning.

Last I'll say, but I gotta disagree it's over the top to interpret it that way. He laughed his ass off and then he pretty much mocked him right after ("...'the glove,' I had no problem with 'the glove,' haha" etc.), if I remember correctly.

You have a point about Drexler -- but he essentially did act like Payton sucked. And that's my point -- he really didn't; he won DPOY like you say.

That's the part Jordan laughed at. That Payton though he(Payton) would have flipped the entire series had he been on MJ. That was laughable.
