Something I mentioned in another thread is doing an honest cost-benefit analysis of everything in your life. The thing a lot of people can't get past is "cost" being monetary cost. If I need one pair of flip-flops and have three, two of those are providing me with no benefit. Meanwhile, they're costing me time and frustration, because they're making it more difficult for me to find and use the things that I actually need. People think that having extra stuff around will make their lives better when it really does the opposite.
We're also starting to get wedding/shower presents delivered to us (I registered for cash). Now, she wants to add more like a gravy boat. Now, I'm a big fan of gravy, anyone that has seen my waist line would know. The other thing people know about me, is that I don't like a lot of people in my house. So I imagine the gravy boat will come in handy as a great change holder.

I read that when it came out. I consider myself a pretty extreme minimalist, but some of her stuff is weird. Emptying out your bag every day when you get home from work and thanking it for its service seems unnecessary.

Alton Brown's Gear For Your Kitchen is actually a really good book for cutting back on kitchen equipment even though that's not its real purpose.
I agree but the methods for doing a major clean up as a one time event and how to go about it was useful.

The way I remember it is you stuck up for good posters and called out some bad posters. Obviously there are guys that disagree and see it as the opposite. Just read the first three pages on a typical Bar thread from 2 years ago, it's pretty obvious the perma bans have not made CCS more fun.

I know there are some guys that are glad to see their tormentors gone, just too thin skinned, and most of those guys add nothing interesting to CCS. It seems like some guys just come here to report people.

Here's a fun thing to do: look at some of the old threads you've started over the years. Just see some of the CCS heavy hitters that used to post here.

Yeah, it's great. I'd definitely recommend it. It's worth it just for the way she stores t-shirts.

Give it to Salvation Army. Goodwill is a scam.

From Snopes - http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/charities.asp

" :*Goodwill Industries International*is not a business that takes in donated items and resells them for a profit. It is a not-for-profit organization that provides job training, employment placement services and other community-based programs for people who have disabilities, lack education or job experience, or face employment challenges. Goodwill raises money for their programs through a chain of thrift stores which also operate as non-profits."

The rumor about goodwill being a scam is false.

And the salvation army boss is on a 6 figure salary.

I'd go with goodwill if I were you.

Salvation Army is the scam.

That is one thing I don't know how to handle. Christmas, Birthdays, other random Holidays where you get gifts from people. I don't know how to tell people that I don't want anything. Even when I tell them, I usually still get something.

Couldn't agree more, it sucks. Like I said before, the irony is that this loss of great posters is self inflicted. It's like Rush is letting some/a mod **** up his site. I have a personal theory that this is all one guy (it's like I'm Spartan Jr.), and I can guarantee that guy is not Urblock. I'm not trying to intervene in a beef you guys have, you're both men, you'll both figure it out, or not, I don't care. I do know that some of my favorite posters are gone and it sucks. I miss the clever.

A buddy of mine that I talked to all the time about this recently asked his kids if they wanted presents or memories for Easter. Kids chose memories, so they flew out to San Diego, rented a car and stayed at cheap motels the way up to SFO.

An example of my own is a few years back I talked my sister and brother into adhering to a strict no present policy at Christmas (I still get things like batteries/garbage bags/other household shit "from my nieces"). Instead of giving each other presents, we pick a nice restaurant and catch up.

Urblock is easy to screw with, so it's fun for me. He's a good guy. Don't tell him though, it's a secret. It's why I used the spoiler tags.

Yeah...what's worse is if you have someone like my MiL who is they type to impose her will on someone--like if she doesn't like the way you dress, she'll buy you something she thinks you'll look good in (even if it's something you wouldn't be caught dead in) and she expect you to wear it.

The best solution I've come up with is to go back to your childhood to the times when your mom bought you geeky clothes--use it in a situation that would hasten completely destroying it. :) Nothing makes an ugly Christmas sweater go away quicker than a few oil changes, a CV replacement, and a couple of brakejobs. :)

As for my wife and I, we have a general rule of 1-in/1-out in any case where there's the penchant for accumulating clutter.

i lived a minimalist lifestyle back in the day... i could fit everything i owned in a rucksack... i did send me sis my important papers to store.. but i got rid of everything.. lived in the woods.. it got boring as shat afta awhile.. but i slept good.. the earths energy recharged me daily.. nuffin like sleeping on her dirt...

i still have some minimalist practices.. but im more about balance now... but i have been collecting shit the past year...

gl with it..

i also went through a phase back in murica about 15 yrs ago where i cleaned out me closet... bought 31 black 5 dolla tshirts, 31 pair undies, and 31 pair socks from wally world.. had 5 pairs of jeans, 5 shorts (2 athletic mesh)..1 set of flip flops, boots and a hybrid cross coutry athletic shoe that was good for running, hiking... could play basketball in em..... i wore each jeans/short 2-3x a month and had shirts undies and socks for the month... only did laundry once a month.... but would sink wash and hang dry me athletic shorts afta use.. i still despise laundry... i still own lots of socks and undies... and i got a wife that does all the laundry...
