The obvious choices are Belichick or Vrabel
You go with experience in these situations
Just remember how prepared the team was with with a John Fox as opposed to Trestman,Nagy,Eberflush
All other choices are just coordinators materials

George is scared of Vrabel - I can see him totally dominate George with mental Reggie

how did that effect Josh Allen? I don’t think it matters as long as the OC is competent.

A couple of things.

During Allen's first 4 years in the league, he had DaBoll as his OC. I think it was critical to his development that he had the same OC for those first 4 years.

Then, they had their succession plan to go to Dorsey when Daboll left and when that was not going great they switched mid season to Joe Brady last year. Now, Brady is doing well enough that he could very well get hired as a HC somewhere in this next hiring cycle, hell maybe even by the Bears, and then what?

That is the exact issue you face when you have a defensive HC. So again, I will say that they have to have a real, believable plan for short and long term to address the OC position on their staff.

On top of all that, the Bills still have not actually even been to a Superbowl, let along win one with Josh Allen. To be fair, the AFC is brutal right now with most of the best QB's in the AFC. But is the goal to be happy to just make the playoffs or is the goal to win a Superbowl?

I’m not saying this is who I want. I’m not really sure who I want other than an offensive guy. I saw a list of potential candidates last week and the guy that for whatever reason stuck out was a Josh McCown.

In what way? Did he stick out like, why is Josh McCown in this list?

just because Nagy was an OC turned HC failure doesn't mean that a OC will never succeed
I said could, not will. I would be fine with Johnson, I just don’t think he will come here. He will have options, the Bears won’t give the best offer, and do we really want them to guarantee him a 6 year deal with the history of the Bears and coaches?

I dont think we should give a shit about the terms of the deal they give to a head coach.

The reason I care is if it doesn’t work out then because of the length of the contract they would likely keep the guy longer because of it. This is the McCaskey’, it’s happened before

Johnson is in a perfect situation for himself right now.

Campbell & the elite OL make him look perfect. Campbell sets the tone for the team and encourages them to play with a physicality and edge. The OL affords him the flexibility to attack the defense in any which way he wants.

People are saying he's not a culture setter - just an elite playcaller (in part because he's in an elite situation). Adding in 2-3 top flight OL talents would help him replicate the OL in Detroit but he doesn't strike me as a absolute slam dunk hire.

If Brown can win some games down the stretch here and has the team playing a tough, smart brand of football I think he's going to be the dude.

That would require poles learning what 2-3 top flight OL look like.

Pretty much every player on the OL poles has brought in or drafted is mediocre or terribad, his best OL he doesnt like and wants to get rid of(Tev)

You would assume if they brought in campbell, or any offensive coach, they would place a heavy emphasis on the OL. Why I dont want to deal with a defensive guy again. They hired flus and instantly signed 2 expensive linebackers to make him happy, if that was an offensive coach in 2022 maybe the bears sign 2 OL

Fair enough, I think Johnson would like the bengals job if it opened up, agree with the emboldened above

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Nebraska Cornhuskers
  2. Villanova Wildcats
I have no doubts that Thomas Brown will end up winning multiple SBs once the Bears end up not hiring him. That is not to suggest that Thomas Brown will win multiple SBs if he was the HC of the Bears. It's just that once he gets the stink off of him, he will cement his place as the greatest of all time.

The thing that was so strange with Nagy was that Reid was quoted at one point as saying he thought Nagy was possibly the best HC candidate of all his former coaches.

The double doink really broke Nagy. And it was a double whammy because they likely don't lose Fangio if they win that game as Denver was probably not going to wait to hire Fangio if he was not available. So many things that could have been different.

Keep this in mind as well...After returning to KC, the Chiefs offense and Mahomes have not been good since Nagy was re-installed as the OC. I get that the Chiefs have had some personnel issues and injuries, but still, Mahomes 2 worst seasons have come under Nagy as the OC... That means something.

The genius of the Chiefs has been and will always be Andy Reid. There is a reason NO ONE wanted Nagy (except the Bears because we are stupid) or Eric Bienemy.

He played for the Bears and he will be cheap. He won’t be in a situation where he has multiple suitors to leverage against each other for more money. I think they’re going to hire an offensive guy to try and mentor Caleb. I don’t think they’ll pay Ben Johnson. He’s one of like maybe 5 guys who when you take all these things into account fits.

He is highly respected and will be a head coach in the next 5 years. It’s probably too early, but it just seems like a Bears move.

You seem confused. I dont care to make predictions. If it is Johnson then I will give him 2-3 years to prove himself. I do have the following concerns about him though.

1. He seems to be more of a beta. For as good as the offense has been it is telling his players didnt rank him higher especially when thry had Glenn as the No 1 DC and Shipp ad the No 4 ST coach. So it seems he may be a good Xs and Os guy but not someone that inspires players.

2. He is rumored to want 5-6 years and something like 8-10 million. That is a lot for someone with no prior experience especially if Bears are eating 2 years of Flus.

“I think Ben is going to be very selective in where he wants to go. Every spot does not appeal to him, let’s just be honest about that. I’ve heard some things about not wanting to go to a larger market, he’s a little bit more of an introvert. I think he’s really going to be very selective in the spots he looks at. I don’t think he’s interested in all the openings. There’s definitely a chance he stays. He loves what he’s doing, he loves where he’s at…I don’t think it would be completely insane if he stays in Detroit.”

Not confused at all. I quoted what the media said. They were wrong about him not wanting to go to a big market. I also said quite clearly, "I dont care to make predictions. If it is Johnson then I will give him 2-3 years to prove himself."

So not sure what to tell you. I am happy the Bears got their guy and fully support him regardless of any concerns expressed.

Thoughts on points 1 and 2?
