players like bollig are starting to go away in this league. it is going the route of tough guys that can actually play. bollig is making 1.2 million more than he should. there is no need for a guy like him to just take bad penalties and try to fight for no reason.

But he doesn't even do that. He's a fucking punching bag who doesn't fight because there's not many guys he can beat.
So, what can Bollig actually give the team?...

1) like you said, he takes bad penalties
2) blows defensive assignments regularly
3) doesn't handle the puck well
4) passes like an old woman
5) shoots like the same old woman's daughter
6) tries to finish checks but mostly gets there late, so see #1
7) too slow to PK
8) no offensive skill, so no PP use

Hey wait...here's something he does well. He does grow a nice playoff beard.

Gotta love the NHL where that package nets you a million dollar plus contract.

Like DMelt says though HW, the Hawks had 4 quality lines in 2010 and 2013. Bolland, Kruger and Frolik were the 4th line in 2013. Having 2-3 complete liabilities in Bollig, Versteeg and Zus that only get less than 5 minutes of ice time on that 4th line really plagued them and Q for whatever reason decided to go with 9 forwards. You can't tell me Morin, Nordstrom and Regin wouldn't have played responsible hockey. It certainly wasn't the only reason they lost, but I think its a big reason.

That said, with salaries going up in the FA pool, trading a guy like Sharp/Seabs doesn't necessarily mean they get better at the position. The Hawks are better off in 2014 than they were in 2011.

Their overall depth hurt them in the postseason, absolutely. I just think the focus on Bollig is a bit of a waste. Versteeg took a step back in the postseason like no player I have seen before. I mean, he wasn't lights out great in the regular season but he was certainly better than what he was in the postseason. Usually players turn it up for the postseason, not the other way around. Handzus had a role and I actually thought he played it well in the postseason...just hoping his time on the Blackhawks is in the past.

Morin hasn't gotten a permanent spot on this team because he can't play a 200 foot game. I think Nordstrom has some improving to do as well, even though he is regarded as more of a defensive player. I was surprised that Regin didn't stick in the lineup, I thought he played well.

There are certainly some improvements, I just think there is too much focus on "why" they lost. This is a team that could have won. They were built in a way that they could have gotten it done. Simply stated, sometimes it doesn't work out. The Stanley Cup is one hard trophy to win. I just don't think there is a lot of soul searching or anything that needs to go on.

Bollig, Versteeg, Morin....it makes no difference if they dress and sit. Was Bollig the problem, yes but it wasn't he who decided who will dress....that's Q. The coach decides who dresses and he dressed guys who he obviously didn't trust to play responsibly. So now, the Hawks are rolling 3 lines and the Kings 4.....come late in the game or into OT you gotta problem. Your guys are tiring out and now you have to play these guys that you don't trust. There is no question that a guy like Bollig is useless but it's his coach who dressed him, nobody else.

yeah, rolling out 3 lines and having to double shift guys due to who Q dressed (4th line) was a huge factor. LA did infact bring 4 lines and all lines were scary. no one was scared of our 4th line, it was brutal.

Legend.

Also, the video says PPG in the title, that wasn't a PPG :shifty:

Real question is why was he even out there on the PP?

The act if winning or being good in a fight is worthless... I don't get why that's a point.

It's like complaining a superhero isn't cool because he loses fights to villains.

Bolig for the raise because Q can, play him every regular season game... If you haven't figured out the simply obvious, Q wants a big body forward to play the boards and forecheck at all times. They finally got one who is trustable after brutal years of John Scott/defensemen at forward or Carcillo/eager who by far have more skill but do much dumber things that hurt teams.

First....he doesn't fight because he's a punching bag. Second...if he's so damn trust worthy, why was he forcing double shifts by playing 3 minutes a game? I'll agree they didn't have much but Regin would've been a far better choice than Bollig.

Logic escapes you once again... The concept of regular season and playoffs clearly aren't equal.

And Kane in double shifts is a better option than Regin as well. And everything in your list but the penalties, applies to Regin who is a guy that does everything blandly, and everything but having a good shot applied to Morin.

Double shifting Kane at certain points is a good idea, such as the 3rd period of a playoff game when the Hawks are trailing. But to do that for an entire series because you're only rolling 3 lines is a problem.

Pluggig isnt a punching bag. He can fight, and he is pretty good at it. Chances are he was told by Q not to fight any staged fights.

But i agree, he is worthless.

Logic has nothing to do with it....particularly what you deem as logic. You think hockey is like EA's NHL14. If you actually ever played the game, you'd realize how foolish your statements are. I might as well be speaking to a goal post.

Do you it resort to pointless baseless proclamations? I got if from points on teams but now on people too eh? There is far too much appreciation of the unknown/unproven yet by people in these topics.

Yeah it is about logic, as if a paragraph is talking about one thing, that's it's context. To being it into another context is without the use of logical.

What will the lines be next year? Apparently the top line and the the newfound second line will be the same but what after that?

Regular season I would like to see:

Sharp - Toews - Hossa
Saad - Teuvo - Kane
Bickel - Shaw/Kruger - Versteeg/Smith
Morin/Bollig - Shaw/Kruger - Smith/Versteeg

Playoffs:
Bickel - Toews - Hossa
Saad - Shaw/Teuvo - Kane
Sharp - Kruger - Smith
Morin/? - Teuvo/Shaw - Versteeg

At least with the current lineup we have, it will change as we sign/move people.

I would like to get back to having a 3rd line that can shut people down in the playoffs.... Sharp - Kruger - Smith could do a great job on that IMO.

No way, there's now the luxury to simple sign Ryan Miller and trade Kane to Buffalo for any other prospects.. Like Hodgson and Myers both.

Not a fan of Teuvo and Kane on the same line. Two guys are gifted playmakers, for sure, but I'd rather have a playmaker paired with guys who can win the puck when that playmaker is forced to dump the puck in.

That was the problem with the Sharp-Handzus-Kane line in the playoff. Kane would carry the puck to the blue line, the Kings/Wild/Blues would send a few guys at 88 forcing him to dump the puck in. Sharp couldn't do it all by himself and Handzus was too damn slow to catch up to the puck, and the other team would corral it.

Top 6 for me would have to be

Saad-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Teuvo-Hossa

Flip Saad and Sharp if you want.
