Does 33 million in space for 2019 assume a stagnant cap or a 10 million increase as has been standard for the last few years?

That is assuming the projected move of the cap to 190 million.

Obviously our financial situation is not as flexible as it was for the past few years but frankly most of our talent is in place. The majority of these people are going to be who we make a run with.

There is little to be done in free agency. It is about developing who we have and finding a couple gems in the draft over the next two years. Pace has proven he can find contributors in rounds 3 and up.

We are not in "cap hell" as the uneducated fan has said. (Typically from teams that did not get Mack.)

You make 2 really good points,

1. The Bears are not in cap hell and are not even close to it really
2. This is the Bears, I doubt we see many more big moves over the next 3 years

For the life of me, I can not figure out how the Bears kept Lynch or why they kept Lynch? Could have saved $5mil in cap space if he had not made the 53 man this year.

Edit: And thanks Windy, great read.

He could possibly contribute at an important area...

This year does not matter from a cap standpoint. Lynch is not on the team next year so it does not matter.

your spending ~25 mill to resign/extend...add in the 2.5 draft pool that leaves about 6 mill to sign 17 more players to get to 53 players with no cap space for emergency signings.

here are the updated numbers from Spotrac, which includes cap rollover. If they extend someone this will come out of the cap rollover.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/chicago-bears/cap/2019/

as of right now they have 30+m in cap room for next year. If they cut Sims and Acho and don't extend anyone this year, they will have 38+m in space for 21 players.

Sorry, I meant to say that the Whitehair extension is an option if they do more extensive cuts. I would also put a lower cap number year 1, I will update the post.

Areas of concern for me right now in order.

1. Finding an answer at RT.

2. Figuring out what to do with Callahan.

3. Whether our revamped WR core delivers as right now a lot riding on ARob, Gabriel and Miller delivering.

4. Figuring out if Burton amd Shaheen live up to the hype.

5. Figuring out what we do with Howard.

6. Goldman.

7. Amos.

I would worry about Goldman later in the season once more things become clear. May let Amos test FA or transition tag him like we did Fuller.

i cant see the bears tagging him at 10 mill. Imo he is given an offer but ultimately is free to sign with whoever.

Tag would just be to ensure right to match. Don't think he would actually play on it as we saw with Fuller.

1. Finding an answer at rt. Agree there.

2. Figuring out what to do with callahan. Is this a big issue?

3. Whether our revamped wr core delivers as right now a lot riding on arob, gabriel and miller delivering. Agree. I'm optimistic.

4. Figuring out if burton amd shaheen live up to the hype. Burton will. Shaheen...hard to say with injuries.

5. Figuring out what we do with howard. He's going to play well. Good 1a/1b with cohen.

6. Goldman. Extend.

7. Amos. Keep?

see above.

At this point he Lynch could be one of the players that can really benefit from the Mack trade. At this point he can come in as a pass rush specialist and limit his amount of snaps per game. This should keep him healthy and allow him to do what he does best. As a starter it was a little scary to rely on an often injured player but as a third pass rusher he may fit in quite well.

During the 2nd half of the season, if we're not in playoff contention, I see them moving Howard for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I don't see Pace paying a chunk of money to extend him especially considering he's not a perfect fit in Nagy's system. Also, Pace has shown the ability to identify talent in the later rounds and Nagy has been able to make a 3rd round pick (Hunt) into a star.

Don't be surprised also if we move a WR for picks, especially if AR, Miller, Wims, Gabriel, and White all produce.

I wouldn't be shocked if by the 2019 draft we have recouped a 1st or 2nd round pick.
