3-4 of those PP's were for like 10 seconds or less. Especially the 2.5 seconds the other night where Hossa hit the post on the face off.

Except for saying, "well that's how it's always been done," I don't understand why the league hasn't switched over to number of goals divided by PP time, vs. number of PPs as they do now, for PP percentage. I'm sure teams keep this stat - goals divided by PP time - for themselves.

Sharp should not be a point man and Hossa, Toews and Kane should not all be on the same unit.

Start with those two things and take it from there...

Had all three of those goals counted last night what would the PP percentage have gone too? They'd have been 3 for 5 last night.

18.4%, which would place us 12th in the league. Big jump from 27th... a string of good games on the PP could put us in the top 10 or even top 5 if you look at it that way.

it does seem too early to *****, but the powerplay thus far has been quite disgusting. It's funny because I now expect us to score more often when we get a penalty instead of the other team getting one.

Am I right, or do we have one more shortie than we do PP marker?

Never too early to *****.

First step, Have DMEN play the point and have FORWARDS play the forward positions. We have offensively capable Dmen, no reason to have forwards back there.

1st unit should be Kane Toews Burnette Keith Leddy

2nd unit should be Hossa Bolland Sharp Seabrook Montador (supposedly he's good at offense so why not)

1st unit should be looking to feed the point and let Burnette do what we brought him in for

2nd unit again look to feed the point, Seabs has a solid shot from back there and maybe Montador does too. (Montador is interchangable)

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Here's something I've noticed o n the PP for the last 3 seasons whenever it started to suck.

How many times have we seen this?

Our forwards are cycling the puck, then one of them kicks it to the point, and the point man recieves the puck, takes time to settle it down, and by the time they get a shot off it goes right into the shins of a defender.

We have 2 players that can/are going to muck it up around the net--Brunette and Bickell. We have players that can launch heavy shots from the point (Seabs comes to mind). We need to start firing off more one-timers quickly enough--before their box gets re-formed. The point men--whoever they are, need to stop trying to look for the *perfect* shot and just get it quickly to the vicinity of the net for the dirty goal, and the cyclers need to go tape-to-tape with a good, crisp pass.

Keep it simple. We don't need to get perfect, fancy goals.

All true and I said the same thing last year.

Even if not a one-timer, why not just just quickly throw a wrist shot at the net?

I will have to admit that they looked a lot better last game but it was against the BJ'S.

Hope they get to Rinne early to night, he seems to get better as the game goes on.

Holy Stinky Wonder Woman outfits our PP was horrendous against Preds.

Almost as bad as watching any of the Scream flicks on this Halloween.

We get the win though!!

We are now next to dead last with St. Louis in PP%. That is single digits which is fucking mind boggling, pathetic hockey with the man advantage and even more pathetic coaching at this point. I mean we roll out the NHL's equivalent to the Yankees when the PP comes up, yet we are the worst in the league? At this point where do we even go?

Rinne robbed us multiple times on the power play. Just a matter of potting a few and I think it will take off. They moved the puck exceptionally well on the PP tonight only to be robbed by Rinne.

I know I shouldn't care cause we still have a great record right now.

But hell...the pp sucks. I don't care what goalies we are facing I don't care what big saves stop us from scoring on the pp. 0 goals on the last 19 pp chances is unacceptable. And once again we come up lame on 5 on 3's. Why is Kane playing the LW on the PP? Why are Hossa AND Sharp playing the point on 5 on 3's? we do have blueliners with hard shots. Leddy and Seabs both have those.

I am so confused by so many things. I don't think I have ever seen other teams put these type of powerplay units together. They are dreadfully wrong.

Can we try a different unit? Can we give a guy like Frolik a chance on the PP? Do Kane and Hossa really need to be on the PP together. One is forced off their natural wing thus one of their shots is instantly hampered.

I don't claim to be an NHL coach but I do know that like many things when it ain't working you need to try new things.

I hope it comes together like you say Wino.

On the bright side our PK still kicks ass. I think I would take a great PK over a great PP to be honest. Although the goals that come off a pp are freaking nice I do like the defensive art of the penalty kill. Something satisfying about a well oiled PK. I tell you this though if our PK goes into the shit and the PP doesn't improve then there is real trouble. PK is one of the main reasons we have the record we do right now.

[sup]Last night against the Overbites they had chances and did not finish....those will even out. Toews is a bit snake-bit right now. [/sup]

[sup]Two things that could be better though are [/sup]

[sup]1. Sense of urgency when the puck is dumped down...last night we lollygagged back to get the puck and Nashville was on us HARD-I was sure they were going to steal one and get a shortie. (Yes, I worked the words "HARD" and "Shortie" in there...grin.)[/sup]

[sup]2. In the Offensive zone, sometimes a lot of standing still passing around. That accompishes nothing if the defending team is not chasing and getting gassed...which they weren't last night in their own end. So if there is movement, you can pass repeatedly looking or the right screen, the right lane, etc. but when we are standing still and so is the opponent, we're just killing the penalty.[/sup]

I am watching the PK from the other teams and are really pressing the D in the game...probably because they are not true D men on the point. Maybe if the Hawks had D men who wouldn't shit their pants as soon as a foward came at them and got the puck down low ...you would of course now have a 4 on 3. As said previously, from that point on...get the puck on net since the Hawks would have more bodies to get the puck in. Nothing pretty...just an ugly goal would of course get teams to respect the D and sit in the box on their heels. Then maybe all those passes would work from the skilled guys up front. Until then....puck on net *******!!!!
