The great Arodys Vizcaino was shipped out to the minors today.

Looks like they didn't want to overwork the China Doll right arm of his after that legendary bullpen session he had earlier in the spring as he was only able to amass a staggering 3 IP during the spring.

I would not be surprised if they need to shut him down till the All Star break to keep him on pace for his 15 IP limit for the season.

It happens. Take a risk, sometimes it doesn't work out, he's still young, and has potential. I'll wait to judge.

Do you watch games? Bosio spoke on this. They are taking it slow on their own end. It has nothing to do with a setback or anything.

This is what you should be wanting. I seem to recall you suggesting Vizcaino as a bull pen arm would make the Maholm trade a total waste. By sending him to the minors they can control his innings and work to try to build up his arm as a starter. Given his injury history you don't just want to send him out and tell him to throw 100+ innings. He'll probably get 50-80 innings as a "piggy back" starter. That's something used in the minors where you take two starters and have them throw 4 innings in a game to limit their overall innings.

This thread looks like an overzealous teenage girl reaction. I wouldn't know because I've found out the ignore feature actually works.

Oh, it's only Vizcaino, I was right then...

Bosio said the other day they dont see them stretching him out. There plan is for him to be a bullpen arm.

The Maholm/Reed Johnson trade was not a waste. The Cubs rightfully took a chance an a former Braves top prospect for the price of a mediocre major league starter and an aging backup OF.

Prospects fail. It happens. The key is improving the farm one-by-one to increase your chances of homegrown talent panning out.

Renteria said they are just following the plan. He was out for 2 years and there is going to be a process to getting his arm 100% vs tossing him into the fire in a higher level of competition. Sure they are babying him but in this case I agree with the decision. Far better to ease him back year 1.

So he was never intended to break camp. It had nothing to do with performance or health.

Do you read the posts?

Where did I say it was a setback?

I simply called him fragile.

Whether you can actually read a post or not and grasp that no where did I use the term fail, but crying like this only shows you lacking the ability to think for yourself.

Funny how the same group who are still in favor of trading away Cashner cause of his being 'injury prone' are the same ones saying that two entire missed seasons due to injury is too soon to judge.

It has nothing to do with fragile. Swear just looking to trash anything that Theo does vs looking at it as a process and him having to work up his arm again.

I seem to remember the Paul Maholm signing getting mocked when it happened. If you had told me at that time we would be able to turn a starter with a lifetime 4.36 ERA into the Braves' top pitching prospect, I would have been elated, and frankly, quite skeptical.

I was also disappointed he missed all of 2013 as well, but seeing him throw 98 this spring leads me to believe all is not lost.

If, for some reason, Vizcaino never throws a pitch at Wrigley, I still would have a hard time arguing with the means to bring him into the Cubs' organization. We got a pitcher with serious shutdown potential for a fifth starter and a fourth outfielder in a losing season. We turned a couple of players with little value to us into a ticket that has a decent chance of cashing in. It's worth the risk.

My fault.

Clearly a pitcher who has missed the last two entire baseball seasons should be thought more as an iron man than fragile.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Guess Chris Carpenter was too fragile for the Cards to pick up to.....

The thing is Pat you ***** about trading out a #4 starter for a roll of the dice. But they just signed another #4 starter right after and traded him for a set up and another better quality starter. This year they again signed another #4 starter and guess what they will most likely trade him again.

Point is guys like Maholm are out there every year. Get over it.

Let me know when Vizcaino turns into Chris Carpenter.

I'll wait.

Wrong. I ***** about Cub fans declaring this deal a steal because he hit 98 ini a bullpen session.

I ***** about the hypocrisy of Cub fans declaring Cashner expendable because he is injury prone and then turning right around and defend a pitcher who has missed two complete seasons as a worthwhile move.

I ***** about the hypocrisy of Cub fans declaring Anthony Rizzo as a valuable piece when he is just as easily replaceable as Paul Maholm is.
