To me it's about taking short term losses for hopefully long term gains. Maybe those long term gains never amount to anything but there's also no long term gains in players like Dempster, Soriano, Zambrano....etc.
Taking short term losses on a bunch of lottery tickets to achieve those long term gains can easily and quickly turn into long term losses.
Not resigning Aramis Ramirez was a short term loss that is now turning into a long term loss.
There may be no long term gains in players like Dempster, Soriano and Zambrano, but there also wasn't any short term losses either.
The minor league system should be used to support the major league team. Not the other way around despite what most here think is the right way to build.
