Theo was against that trade. Jed pushed it. As he pushed bringing him over to the Pads. Time will tell on this one. If Cashner turns into a ace and Rizzo turns into a Votto type producer. Well going with demand it still goes towards top of the rotation over a 1B. Even in prospect rankings 1B is viewed as lesser talent.
Time will tell. Again if he puts out a 30 HR season hitting .270+ then no. Taking it from his sophomore year slump? Sure why not.

I never heard anyone call the Maholm-Vizcaino trade a steal after that bullpen session... without adding "if he is healthy enough to pitch," or "if he is finally healthy," or something along those lines. And going to the minors to start the year doesn't mean he'll never have any value.

A 26 year old pitcher who can hit the upper 90's and posts a 3.06 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 175 innings isn't a 4/5th type starter. Never.
Typical slurper hypocrisy.
A pitcher who hasn't pitched in 2 years but can hit the upper 90's has the potential to be an 'ace' yet a pitcher who hits the upper 90's and is actually pitching and being productive in the majors is only a 4/5th type starter because God traded him away.
Rizzo is more valuable than a quality starting pitcher if he hit's mid 20's homers because God traded for him, but Soriano who hit in the upper 20's to low 30's singlehandedly destroyed the franchise.
That is Cub fan logic for you right there.

And if Cashner had been signed to an extended contract with a couple years of team options, he could also be under team control for several years.
That is why idiots overvalue team control because they can't grasp that you can get team control over a player any time you like. You just have to sign him to a contract.
