Holy Cross Crushes Loyola-Chicago

The Crusaders won easily in this in one by defeating Loyola-Chicago by a final score of 83-49. Led by Andrew Keister who scored 28 points, R.J Evans and Andrew Beinert also added 18 a piece. Coach Polley sounded very confident after the win last night, here was one of his statements last night, "Tonight's game was just an old-fashioned take you out to the woodshed beat down. I don't know of many teams who could have played more poorly than that." One thing is certain Coach Polley, your next game will be much tougher. Holy Cross's next game is against Rhode Island, arguably an NCAA Tournament team. After tomorrow's game, we will know where our basketball program stands.

Crusaders Tame Rams

In one of the most exciting games of the young season, the Holy Cross Crusaders picked up a a huge win, solidifying there spot as one of the top teams in the conference. In the first half the Crusaders come out with a fire on the road, scoring easy transition buckets and several threes. Rhode Island was turnover plagued in the first half mostly caused by the swarming pressure of the Crusaders. It is safe to say, if you were sitting in the first five rows you had a chance to catch a pass from the home team. Not only were the Rams turning the ball over left and right, but they shot an abysmal 17% from the field. This was also caused by the Crusaders defense. The Rams had no chance of getting to the basket, every time they tried, they couldn't get past their defender, and the few times they did they were either picked up by a help defender or blocked by Andrew Keister who had a whale of a game finishing with 16 points, 19 rebounds and 6 blocks. The defense of the Crusaders put the Rams into a situation of shooting the three ball, and like everything else, that wasn't working in the first half either. With the score at 41-16 at the half, the Crusaders had the nation thinking they were world beaters. Then came the second half. Second half play began with a 9-0 run by the Rams making the score 41-25 off of a couple threes and free throws. Coach Polley not happy with his team's lack of effort to start the second half quickly called a timeout and ripped into his team, but the Rams continued hitting shots and getting to the charity stripe. with 4 minutes left in the game Rhode Island had taken a 58-54 lead and I am sure everyone watching thought the game was over, as did I myself. I mean, there is no way a team with that kind of run is going to blow the lead now, right? Not right. The Crusaders had a short little spurt of two consecutive threes and were up by two. After that it was back and forth for the final three and a half minutes of play. With 24 seconds remaining Rhode Island burned their final timeout down by one. They quickly attacked the basket, and got to the line where only one of the free throws was made. Without any timeouts left Holy Cross got the ball up court and gave it into the post to Keister who tried making a move but was double teamed before he could. R.J Evans flashed out into the corner wide-open and Keister gave him the pass. Evans nailed the 12-foot jumper with .04 on the clock. Game. Set. Match. So as of now, the perfect record remains in tact against two quality opponents in St. Joesph's and Rhode Island, both on the road. How much longer can this continue? Another tough task is ahead when the Crusaders travel on the road again to play the Fighting Rebels of UNLV.

Runnin Rebels No Longer Runnin

84165843.jpg

The UNLV Runnin Rebels 11-Game home court win streak(which started last season.) was put to an end tonight with Holy Cross defeating UNLV by a final score of 61-56. The game bobbed back and forth all the way to the 8 minute mark of the second half when the Crusaders pulled away to take a 8 point lead. Two final threes at the end of the game for UNLV made the final 61-56. Holy Cross accomplished something tonight they couldn't all season. Connecting on free-throw attempts. Holy Cross shot 16-20 from the line tonight, while they shot under 50% as a team in the first four games. Andrew Keister led all scorers with 22 points and R.J Evans finished with 20. The two are becoming quite the scoring tandem.

they are, so was Rhode Island. both on the road too. Don't forget though, having the best overall player on the court(Andrew Keister) against other mid-majors and also having the best scorer on the court(R.J Evans) helps me out big-time.

Winning Streak Up to 6!

The 6-game winning streak of the Crusaders was not the big headline tonight, instead it was R.J Evans who dropped 37 points in the victory over Western Michigan. The Broncos, a lackluster opponent at best, proved to be little competition for them as Holy Cross led by Evans crushed the Broncos by a final score of 64-50

Evans, Another Buzzer Beater!

R.J Evans, hit his second buzzer beater of the season against Stony Brook. In OT, Holy Cross trailed 83-80 when Keister nailed a jumper from the free throw line to trail by one. On the next play Stony Brook choked at the line and it allowed R.J Evans to set up his game winning jumper from the just inside the top of the three-point line. Evans received the ball in the corner from a pass from half-court, dribbled left, received a monstrous pick from Keister and curled off of the pick to hit his jumper. R.J Evans finished up with 26 points and 6 assists and Keister led all scorers and rebounders with a stat line of 36 and 18. Eric Meister, the senior starting Center is also starting to emerge these last couple of games as a reliable player. He added 18 points and 20 boards to the win over Stony Brook. This one improves Holy Cross's record to 10-2.

Wolf Pack Topple Crusaders

The way the first half was played, you would have never though NC State had won this game by 17 points in the end. The game was tied at half 34-34 and the Holy Cross Crusaders were oozing with confidence going into the second half against the #16 Wolf Pack. Holy Cross needed to shoot a high percentage to beat the Wolf Pack and keep the turnovers to a minimum. First half of play- Shoot high percentage? check. Keep turnovers low? check. Second Half- Shoot high percentage? negative. Keep turnovers low? negative. Andrew Keister and R.J Evans both had a huge first half, each scoring 12 a piece. In the second half, NC State double teamed Evans and the whole Crusader offense got out of sync. Even Keister, who finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds seemed out of sync. Holy Cross was getting murdered on the boards and the guards were making passes into the 5th row of the bleachers. The Wolfpack outscored Holy Cross by 17 points in the second half to coast to a 82-65 victory. R.J Evans finished with 16. The Crusaders must now forget the humiliating loss and turn their attention to Lafayette. Here was some Q&A's with Coach Polley after the loss...

Coach, what does your team need to improve off this loss? "We need to get better. We played like shit tonight."

Do you now turn your attention fully to conference play which starts in a couple of days?
"Of course we do, not much else we can do, but I promise you this, the WolfPack better be ready when they take a trip to our arena next season. Payback is a *****."

Holy Cross Loses Last Game of the Season

Tie Game. Six seconds left. Lehigh takes the ball the length of the court and makes a floater in the lane over the outstretched arms of Andrew Keister. Game. The Lehigh student section rushes the floor as the Crusaders walk off the court, heads down. The biggest game of the season, lost in seconds. Lehigh takes the #1 slot going into conference play. Holy Cross takes #2. Now the Crusaders must regroup and get focused again, just like they did after the loss to NC State. It will be much tougher, the depression that grew across campus after the shot went in for Lehigh, is very much noticeable.

Revenge on the Mind of Coach Polley

On the opening play of the 2nd round conference game against Colgate, R.J Evans leg was snapped on a loose ball. "Revenge is a *****, NC State, Lehigh and now Colgate will get theirs next season. When you purposely injure a top player on the opposing team, it shows how weak you are. Those faggots barely beat us without Evans, with him, we would have beat that ass by 20 maybe 30." Coach Polley was later fined and suspended the first 2 games to start the next season by the NCAA. To add to it, Coach Polley got himself in some more hot water when he said this about the NCAA, "Maybe they should wake the **** up and start controlling things such as paying players on the recruiting trail and how certain players actually are getting into these schools. A prime example is Kentucky, and yes Kentucky, this means our squad wants to play you next season. On your court. Come ready you homo's, we run Lexington." Another two game suspension was tacked on after these comments. Unless the NIT is extremely kind, the season is now over for the Crusaders.
