Crusaders Coming On Strong

After the NIT championship loss to Murray St., the Crusaders are now 4-1 since, posting a record of 8-2 with wins against Portland State, Saint Mary's, Dartmouth and Indiana State. "We are playing at a high level right now, we have a big game against the Kentucky Wildcats, the #1 team in the land and we are very confident going in."- Keister after practice. "We are really focused and prepared for our game against the Wildcats, one of the most proud programs in the history of the NCAA."

Wildcats Pushed To the Limit!

In Lexington, Kentucky the nation's #1 ranked team was pushed as far as they could be pushed by the huge-underdogs of Holy Cross. "We played an excellent basketball game today, we just didn't have enough in the tank at the end to get the W." said Coach Polley proudly of his team's efforts. John Wall scorched the nets tonight scoring 39 points, adding 8 assists and 6 blocks. The first half Holy Cross led by a score of 44-33 and took blow after blow after blow from UK, but at the end was still standing right there, right next to the Wildcats. The Crusaders picked up some big-time performances today from Andrew Keister, R.J Evans, and two freshman Morgan and Wolfgang Wolverton. Keister finished up with 21 points and 8 boards, Evans with 26 points, Newsom, 16 points and 24 rebounds, Wolfgang Wolverton had 12 points and 19 boards. Surprisingly, the Crusaders dominated the Wildcats on the boards out-rebounding Kentucky 44 to 31. With Holy Cross leading down the stretch, Wall took over, scoring UK's final 11 points en route to a 74-70 victory.

Crusaders Drop Three Straight

Losses to Kentucky, Rider and Old Dominion have put the record of the Crusaders at 8-5. A once promising start, now not looking to promising. "We will turn this around, in a big way. When we look at the schedule we think we go on to win every game the rest of the way." Andrew Keister, the senior leader and team leading scorer sounded very confident of his team's ability to right the ship.

Freshman Newsome Out 4-6 Games.

To make matters worst, one of the nation's best performing freshman(statistic wise.) is out for 4-6 games due to a wrist injury. The big man was reportedly writing a long essay and did something to his wrist while writing after hours.

Newsome Returns; Crusaders Get Rollin

Since our last article, Newsome has returned from his injury and the team is tearing it up in conference play. Now on a 20-game winning streak and undefeated in conference play, the Crusaders are two games away from a perfect conference season. If the next two games do in fact turn out to be W's, it would put Holy Cross at 26-5 on the season. "This team is really playing great ball, we have the potential to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament." Once again, Coach Polley sounded very confident and pleased with his team's efforts and performance thus far this season.

Crusaders End Conference Play Undefeated!

After a 20-game winning streak and a perfect 17-0 record in the Patriot League, the Holy Cross Crusaders have cracked the top 45 and rest at #42 in the nation. Holy Cross looks to guarantee their spot in the tournament by winning the conference championship. "I think it was the win over #21 ranked NC State at home that got this huge run started" explained Coach Polley, "That was the only game this season we mixed things up and went to a half-court style of play, and I'll be damned, cause it worked as we won the game in a low-scoring affair 48-41. The next game we knocked off a very good team in Tulsa by 16 on the road, and it seems like from that point on we have just rolled, you can't forget that during this streak we have only won in single digits twice, against NC State and Bucknell. That is also a great accomplishment."

Conference Champs!

After a great season, the Crusaders have done it! They won the conference championship against Navy 77-58 in a game that was never really close. "This is what us seniors have been working for our entire careers here, it feels so great to get this win!" Keister said of the victory. The Crusaders will face Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and qualified as the 10th seed.

Season Over In Double OT

84-78. Season Over. "Our team made a great run this season and without any nonsense from the referees, we might have made it further." Polley said. Andrew Keister, the team's best player, fouled out with 4 minutes left in the game. Yet, the team hung tough and got it into over-time. Morgan Newsom, another outstanding player on this season's team, fouled out 6 seconds into OT. Wolfgang Wolverton, the 6th man off the bench, fouled out with 2:41 left in OT, and R.J Evans, the team's best scorer fouled out with :09 left it in OT. Yet with all that, the team still pushed and got the game into a second over-time where they eventually wound up losing by 6. Funny thing though, the most fouls a player on Stanford had was 3, and Holy Cross took 14 more shots in the paint than Stanford did. Regardless of all that, it was a GREAT season from our Crusaders.
