Gator Chomp Not To Advance!
In as an exciting first round match-up you could hope for, the Crusaders came out on top. "Just a great game" said Crusaders Head Coach Justin Polley. "We came out and executed flawlessly and executing to perfection was the only way to beat this Florida team. They are a very, very talented team with Final Four ability. Tonight provided a great win for the program." With Holy Cross up between 5-10 the whole game, Florida made their run with around 6 minutes left, burying a couple of contested threes and cleaning up the offensive glass. At the 2:04 Muyo Cossa nailed a three to put Florida up 1. The lead didn't last very long though, on the next possession sophomore point guard Jonathan Hartley attacked into the middle of the paint, kicked out a pass into the corner where freshman shooting guard Kevin Armstrong caught the pass cleanly, pump-faked and got the step he needed on his defender to get an open look. A step inside the three-point line and Armstrong buried his open look. On the next possession Muyo Cossa hit yet another contested three putting Florida up 66-64. Alex Abott the sophomore sensation of Holy Cross inbounded the ball to Hartley at mid-court who then made a pass into the left corner to freshman SF Abel Spivey who returned the favor by hitting a three of his own. Now with 1 minute exact left, Florida attacked the paint and put up a shot which was blocked by Morgan Newsom but was picked up by Corey Moran who threw down a monster dunk. Down 68-67 Hartley led another blazing quick fast-break but this time he made the pass to the right wing where he found a wide open Kevin Armstrong he buried a three to put the Crusaders up 70-68. With 46 seconds left in the game Florida got the ball down-low to Rick Dobson who was fouled on his shot attempt. Dobson coolly nailed the pair. Hartley had time with 33 seconds left in the game to get the call from Coach Polley and have the team run through it several times. With time winding down Hartley dribbled toward Armstrong on the three-point line, and handed it off to him. Armstrong the three-point specialist pumped and got two Gator guards to collapse on him. Hartley slipped to the baseline and Armstrong got him the ball wide-open to bury the game-winning shot with 1.4 seconds. With the exciting win, the Crusaders need to mount up and get rested for tomorrow. Tomorrow's semi-final opponent is unknown yet.
