I think I would make that trade. Then at 41 take the top center. And at 53 the best tackle left, or visa versa.

The #9 can get a talented player on a rookie contract. Don’t trade it for a guy about to cost a lot. Pursue him, but not at the cost of the 9th overall pick.

Williams doesn’t really solve anything tho. Just a run stopper that rarely gets to the QB.

2020: 11.5 sacks
2021: 6.5 sacks

What!?! His sacks numbers went down last year because of injuries and lack of talent around him but he can definitely get to the QB. Daron Paynes best year was 11 sacks.

To be fair…bears DO need someone that can stop the run. Right now they ain’t got a line that can do that, just like they didn’t last year

I don’t think the bears are looking to take on a 32 mil contract to do it, though

Hes much more than a run stopper he had 6.5 in 2021 and 11.5 in 2020.

He'd get a new contract in a trade if not Giants may be forced to cut him.

You have to look at other factors than simply sacks. Look at pass rush win rate, qb pressures and qb hits. His 11sack season was a massive outlier with 42 pressures, which I think was a contract year. He averages around 24/year. That’s a lot of money for decent production and also having to send draft capital too.

That’s why I say trade down, pick up extra picks and then offer the later first round pick.

I wouldn't trade a first (or equivalent value) for Simmons at this point. I'm inclined to build the defense through the draft unless a player becomes available on our terms (via cut or cap desperation).

After the Walker and Billings signings, DE is the bigger priority right now. Fortunately the draft is deep at the position. Dane Brugler has 15 edge players in the top 100. We have an abundance of picks right in the sweet spot—4 picks in the top 64 and more ammo to move around. Same thing is true for CB and C. Spend resources where it favors building the whole roster.

We don't need long term starters everywhere. Improve as many positions across the roster as you can then plug in the last pieces when we're sure the competitive window is open with Fields.

It isnt for the cost of the 9th overall pick. It’s the 9th pick for Simmons (who is by far better for the next few years at least than anyone we take at 9) plus the 41st pick.

Lions give Titans #6 & #18
Tennessee gives the Lions #11, #41 and Simmons.
That’s called getting fleeced. Was reading today on Twitter that Simmons is worth 2 firsts and then some. A deal similar to what Mack got the Raiders.

I will be honest, didn't know much about him until recently, but I think a comparison to Mack is a little extreme. The trade I outlined is the equivalent of a first, and higher than a 2024 first.

Most don’t know how good he is because he plays in Nashville. Which is easy to understand, I’m not even sure if Nashville knows who he is.

If y’all landed him, I’d hate to say it, but Detroit will be a top 3 NFC seed.

Sighhh. This is Deron Payne 2.0. Same people here convincing themselves and each other that the Titans have to or want to move on from Simmons. Tennessee is built around defense and running the ball. They're not going to trade their cornerstone defensive guy, a player who's still on his first contract. This is just contract negotiations noise. In the end, Simmons will sign a contract extension because Tennessee has all the leverage. That's the way the NFL works. And don't even bother with the 'Tennessee has cap issues' stuff. Cap management in the NFL is all about accounting, not spending.

April 27th can't get here soon enough. This constant treating of every piece of rumor or pure speculation as fact gets really tedious...

The trade gives the titans ammo to move up to #3.
Detroit could then take Bijan or JSN at #11.

The Titans need a QB. Their D has not been getting them to the promise land.

It also isn’t comparing similar situations. Most just speculated that they would move on from Payne as they had too much money tied up in the DL but the Commanders never did discuss serious trades with other teams(could be wrong tho). With Simmons, it’s become known that the TItans GM has had discussions with other teams about moving him. Doesn’t mean he will be moved as it could just be a bluff but at least there is actually smoke

If he's traded after the draft I wouldn't mind if Bears trade Panthers pick next year for him.

What Washington did with Da'Ron Payne is either foreshadowing some sort of move with Montez Sweat and/or Chase Young, or they are just going all in on their defensive line annhilating opponents. It was entirely reasonable to expect them to let Payne walk, it made lots of sense.
