This isn't made to say one is better than the other....but more in the sense that these 2 are 1a and 1a on this team.

I know how clutch Toews is considered and the last 3gms he came alive. But Kane deserves to be every bit of clutch and irreplaceable on this team. He never should be moved. Ever. Never should be mentioned. Ever.

That entry on the tying goal - only he could do that. I doubt many in the NHL can undress a defence like that.

He's won -

Calder

2 Cups

Silver Medal - and in that game...he lead USA with 4 SOG, assisted on BOTH USA goals, +2

And now a Conn Smythe

Doug Weight brought this up - and it's ridiculous.

At 24, he's played in 5 playoff "seasons" - and has scored 9+ goals in 3 of them. That is insane

I don't give a **** that he parties balls off in the off season. It's only a big deal now because of social media. In fact, I'm glad he has the personality he does. I look forward to 10+ more years of Kaner and Toews on this team. There's NO TANDEM like these two anywhere in the NHL.

Agreed, with consistent play and barring injury Kane is well on his way to the Hall of Fame.

Toews as well.

Nothing like seeing the graphic of Kane and Toews now reading Stanley Cup Champions (2010,2013)

as long as neither of them leave, we will be watching 88 and 19 going into the rafters of the UC in 20 years.

Can't wait. Now if Sharp is retained and keeps producing and we grab another cup......now we have possibly 6 guys who deserve to have the numbers never worn again.

Right now Keith, Kane, Toews are locks in my view. Hossa will depend on the rest of his time here, but if Sharp and Seabrook are able to stick around and play here for 4-5 more years, I hope their careers, they are going up.

Very well said, pmx. I thought Kane's post game interview was awesome yesterday - very gracious and effusively complimentary of his teammates.

Before we start putting up numbers left and right let's not forgot players who for no other reason were not on any Cup winning teams.

Steve Larmer and Doug Wilson are the first two that come to mind.

And if they win one in a Hawks uniform they are definitely in the rafters.

For those that were around back then, are Toews and Kane rivaling what Mikita and Hull did in the 60s and 70s.

Obviously 19 and 88 have one upped them in Stanley Cups, but do Toews and Kane still have work to do before being compared to two Hawk legends?

Different era, different league, different style of play. IMO you can not compare them in that instance.

They are in their own right already two of the greatest Blackhawks in history. Just as the other two mentioned.

Good thread PMX. Kane is as important to this team as Toews. For both the same and different reasons.

Hull and Mikita were on the Hawks 61 Cup winning team, the 71 team that shoulda won the Cup (poor Tony Esposito never got a ring - shame) and Mikita was on the 73 team that went to the cup finals (Hull was in the WHA by then), so no, they've already won more Cups than Hull and Mikita and only Mikita has more finals appearances. The comparison is appropriate in my book, and I've followed the Hawks since 1965.

As I've said before, this core group the Hawks have had over the past 5-6 years has achieved more than any other core group in their entire history. This is their golden era. Those two will only get better. I would say is it appropriate to compare Mikita and Hull to Toews and Kane rather than the other way around. Toews and Kane and this group are the standard now.

He was a bit of a different player this year. I too don't give two shits about the off ice stuff and don't pay attention to it anyways. I personally thought his game on the ice matured big time this year. He is still no top 20 two way forward and never will be but his efforts at the back end of the game drastically improved. I gave him a hard time on some plays durring this cup run where he floated a bit too much but I understand why he does at moments..hes looking for the break out play. He came up big when the team needed him to come up big.

Was really nice not watching him play center this year..even though he wasn't horrible at it last season. He's a top 5 RW in the game if not in the top 3..some can debate if he is actually the best rwer.

I've had this conversation with my dad. To me next to Jordan, Kane is the most clutch player in Chicago sports history. Don't even need to explain, you guys know what he has done when the big stage is set.

I'd take Kane over Toews. They are both great and I know Toews has the intangibles that make his teammates better. But fucking Kane... dude is unreal and he's got that swagger.

Kane is the rockstar, Toews is Bill Gates.

Hard to argue with that however Toews has his clutch moments. Remember the tying goal in game 7 against the nucks, dying minutes of the 3rd, while falling, scores.

I'd have a hard time choosing. They each bring tangibles the other doesn't have.

Which is why when paired together they are probably the leagues worst tandem to match up against. As LA and eventually Boston found out.

I'd take Toews, Toews is the guy you build a team around. Kane is just part of that team. That isn't a knock on Kane he is fucking awesome but Toews is the more essential piece.

That was insane, but we that game fades quick since it was the 1st round and we lost.

Kane's hat trick in 09 to go to the first WCF in almost 20 years, second hat trick this year to go to the Cup, the obvious greatest ever Hawks goal to win the Stanley Cup in 2010. Just those 3 instances are enough to solidify anyone as one of the best ever, but he has more on top of that.
