Discuss all rumors/moves here.

Let’s hope the Cubs make some shrewd moves!

I’d love to see them acquire a SP and/or 3B with team control for at least a couple seasons.

Consolidation should be the name of the game for the cubs this deadline

Getting a 3Bman with control is going to be near impossible unless they go for a guy who is in the minors now but close. Coby Mayo could be gotten. Baltimore has another prospect in front of him. Justin Foscue is #7 on the Ranger list and having a good year in AAA.

Tough part is all the better 3B are either on contending teams, have expiring contracts, or would cost way too much in prospects to get. I mean, what would the Cubs have to give for Arenado, Devers, or Jose Ramirez?

Saw a kaplan video on youtube with Gdub and something i thought was interesting came up. Gdub mentioned he thinks you might see some creative 3 team trades because the state of the market with way more buyers than sellers. I think that is an interesting take because the available pieces out there are kinda low.

I have no clue who the hell Gdub is, but I think he brings up a real possibility

Meanwhile, Stroman is going to suck just enough down the stretch toward the trade deadline that he will both hurt the cubs postseason chances and their chances of getting a return for him in trade.

Not gonna lie, seeing all this "pay the man" talk around Bellinger annoys me. I get why people want to keep him long term but there's more to it than just what the cubs may want to do. I don't think there's a realistic price the cubs could pay to keep him. He's gonna want to hit FA

He has an ERA of 6.19 in four July starts, and has allowed three early runs tonight.
Ok but even then his july FIP is 4.22 compared to his 6.20 ERA. With the angels reportedly pulling ohtani off the market he's still by far the best pitcher available if the cubs sell

I am not suggesting by any means he’s untradable. I am simply pointing out that the worst he does in July, the less someone wants to give up for him.

Any GM with a brain knows he is buying Stroman’s August and September, not his April and May.

A long stretch of poor starts makes those future months more risky for the GM trading for him.

Tbf, his defense hasn’t exactly helped him(Bellinger and Tauchman)

Eh... i mean beggers can't be choosers. If the cubs sell there's not many pitchers really close to what he can be. I think it's a bit reactive to say he's losing value start by start because that's not really how it works. Trade aren't or at least shouldn't be made on stats especially short time span stats. They should be made on scouting. If you want to argue something is "wrong" with him to cause the poor performances then sure maybe he's worth less but i've yet to see any real comments on that.

Exactly. Not to mention when there isn’t a lot of great options for SP available, get a couple teams or more bidding, and it’ll lead to a nice return

Well, counting tonight that’s five starts in July and his last start in June was his shitty London outing.

So that’s 5 of 6 over five weeks. Can’t pretend it’s all someone else’s fault.

Yeah, with Stroman it's a lot more than one fucking start....he hasn't been right for weeks or more likely things are just balancing out. He may or maynot get one more start but I'd say the damage is already done. He's roughly a .500 pitcher, always has been. The only thing the Cubs have going for them with Stroman is that there isn't much out there. Bellinger can be a main cog but if he insists on going FA, they will have to try and move him. He has all the leverage at this point....I am impressed that he rolled the dice on himself and won. Pretty ballsy.

Anybody's guess what Hoyer is looking for but I think they have about a dozen players in Chicago in their 30's....I surely don't want any more.
