Yep, I agree with you, though, apparently, we are in the minority. I guess I just haven't seen the "washed up" Turco that everyone else is claiming to have seen. He is still one of the top puck handling goalies in the league.
I don't watch alot of stars hockey.... the games that I watch when Chicago plays them...I usually get pretty frustrated watching him stone us cold... The guy competes like Niemi...but has better rebound control.... and teams are forced to chip the pucks into the corners because he plays the puck so well... It'll make forechecking vs us alot tougher.
Know what the worst part of this is? If not for Niemi and his stupid fucking arbitration, we probably keep Ladd.
I thought that myself...

That's the thing. One of the ways we saw to beat the Hawks is with an aggressive forecheck. Good luck with that when Turco is back there playing the puck like a defenseman...

I watched the Hawks vs. Dallas games the past 2 seasons in Dallas and I can tell you the fans have had it with Turco. Many call him '5 hole Marty' - at least the sections I sat in. Overwhelmingly the response I saw from them was that he was done and his skills in decline.

He just stuck it to the Chicago fans - sorry but he's gone in my book. I want nothing more to do with him.
And Dallas doesn't have a single defesenman that could crack the Hawks top four.... I'll hold my judgement until I see him play behind the best defensive squad in the NHL, in one of the best defensive systems in the NHL.

My favorite teams
 1. Portland Timbers
 1. Chicago Blackhawks
I'll hold off on who's the upgrade over whom until we've seen how each plays this coming year...but I'm not at all upset about swapping Niemi for Turco.

THIS is what I have been pitchin to all my hockey geek buddies for YEARS! Imagine this D with another .5 dman back there, a goalie that can make 60" passes, the CONFIDENCE to do so, smart as hell and a competitor.

So... I guess I will be willing to eat crow.

But will do so gladly...

Oh yeah... and your going to take the opinion of a bunch of clueless hillbillies who shouldn't even have hockey down there..... I mean ****... some clueless fans in Chicago booo their own players..... Some are gonna booo ex cup champion hawks... Some thought #55 was still Daze

Niemi had some glaring weaknesses as well... quite a few pucks squeaked through him... quite a few were roofed on him as well.....I'll take Turco anyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

I agree with you and will be rooting for Turco all the way hoping he has a great season for us. But I am concerned - I'll always be the doubting Thomas around here I guess - I will gladly eat Crow if Marty does great for us because it means the team does well.

A couple people in my section last season thought #11 was Jack Skille - that made for a good laugh on more than one occasion

Going into the seasons the last 3 years, I have never been more confident then I am now with Turco as our #1.

Niemi being a one year wonder like Mason and Ellis is just as likely as Turco coming here and flopping. I'll take the cheaper "risk" every time and twice on Sunday... The Hawks are the first team following the "Detroit Model" of goaltending. CHEAP goaltending with a loaded up defense in front of him.

I've been a fan of this philosophy for YEARS.

Yeah, Robidas was borderline, so I felt pretty confident with that statement. Regardless, Robidas being their #1 defenseman has to tell you everything you need to know.

He's always biased towards the player, no surprise there, as well as being correct as often as a broken clock.

More damage control from Zito;

Bill Zito, the agent for Niemi, knew things weren't going well when the arbitration award came in on Saturday and he didn't hear anything from the Blackhawks. He told his client what he told his wife, what often he tells himself: Don't worry about things you can't control. And quietly, all of them worried that the Chicago thing was falling apart.

"He's disappointed," said Zito of Niemi. "He's in a bit of shock. I'm pretty close to him. He doesn't always show what he's feeling. But he's got feelings. He has to be disappointed."

He's also in a bit of a goaltending conundrum. It's already August and there are no outwardly available first string goaltending jobs in the NHL. The money the arbitrator awarded Niemi was to have paid him like an emerging first stringer. To accept backup duty now, after winning the Cup, will almost certainly mean he'll have to cut his financial expectations, if not his hockey expectations.

Either way, it's not going to be easy. "I've already heard from a few teams today," said Zito. "We'll see what happens. I feel a little bit like the used car dealer who's only got one car on the lot. You know you're going to sell it and get a bunch of offers for it. You're just not sure you get what you want."

I don't even read his garbage.

Btw, is Zito not the biggest fucking prick in the agent business, or what? He may have really fucked Niemi here, and it's rather unfortunate. I really like Niemi and I think he's a good kid, that's getting some really bad advice, that may cost him a lot in the long run. It will be interesting to see where he lands and what his contract looks like.

Not really surprised that it's Kerfuffle whining and moaning here. I've only seen him be doom&gloom, negative and whining around here.

Turco @ 1.3 is a great deal, regardless of his past years in Dallas. And by the comments he made, he seems really stoked to be a Hawk and I am sure he'll do his best to get that one last big payday before retiring. Playing behind the suspect defense of Dallas is sure to beat any one down and Crawford isn't exactly known to be a goalie guy.
